Ideal for couples, friends or small families, this thoughtfully converted steading is located on a 125-acre working livestock farm. It’s just outside the peaceful village of Lumsden, where you’ll find a shop, playpark and sculpture trail, and it sits between Alford (9.5 miles) and Huntly (13 miles), each of which boasts shops and places to eat. In Alford, you’ll find three museums and a narrow-gauge railway that will puff you just under a mile to Haughton Country Park. Huntly, meanwhile, has a castle and a ski centre, and is renowned for its locally made shortbread and ice cream, both of which you can buy in town. If you enjoy malt whisky, there are several distilleries within 28 miles, including Cabrach, Dufftown, Glendronach and Glen Garioch, or for a historic house and beautiful gardens, visit the National Trust’s Leith Hall, 8 miles away. Several of Scotland's magnificent castles are nearby, and can be visited as part of the famous Castle Trail.

This beautifully designed escape is set all on one level and has no steps inside or out. With double glazing, a wood burner and tiled floors warmed by underfloor heating, it’s super-cosy all year round. From the hall, step into the light-filled, open-plan living space – where you’ll immediately be drawn to the spectacular countryside views through the floor-to-ceiling windows. Sink into the soft seating – you could spend hours here, perhaps picking up a book or a board game from the shelves, or flicking on the TV for entertainment once night falls. The Shaker-style kitchen includes plenty of cupboards as well as a microwave and a dishwasher for speed and convenience, and you can enjoy hearty meals at the dining table, which is set by the windows. When you’re ready for a good night’s sleep, the two bedrooms are beautifully styled with pretty linens and ample storage, and both enjoy gorgeous views. Both have en-suite shower rooms, one of which can also be accessed from the hall. For storing bikes or outdoor gear, and drying damp clothes, you’ll have access to a shared, heated boiler room with a tumble dryer.
