There are extensive grounds with varied birdlife and squirrels which regularly visit. Within walking distance of a pub and restaurant, the house is not far from the village of Aboyne, which has shops and eateries, and in the summer has its own Highland Games – a feature throughout Deeside. Balmoral Castle is well worth a visit and in winter skiing at the Lecht or Glenshee are both easily accessed. Fishing, golf, hill walking, horse riding and even gliding at a nearby club.

We have stayed in this cottage a number of times and it is always wonderful.

Cosy cottage, ideal for two. Red Squirrels just outside the window every morning. Lots of birds on the feeder and even had a visit from a Pine Marten. Local walks were good, took advantage of joining the National Trust for Scotland and by visiting just four local castles it has already paid for itself. Would highly recommend castles Fraser, Drum, Crathes and Fyvie, all within an easy drive. Scenic drive up to Tomintoul, then on to Granton-on-Spey and back via Dufftown, probably 120 mile round trip. Well worth it, if you have good weather. The falls at Linn of Dee are worth seeing, just a few miles outside Braemar. Call in at Gordon's Tearoom for soup and an excellent cheese scone while at Braemar.
