This National Park is renowned for its Dark Skies and at night the skies are often filled with the many constellations, which you can watch from the luxury of the log-fired bath, listening to the awakening owls. Beautifully presented inside and furnished to an exceptionally high standard, complete with a cosy wood burner for those chilly nights, the hut caters for your every need and includes a thoughtful basket of local delights to welcome you to your unique accommodation. Outside is the estate orchard with a seating area overlooking the rolling hills, dales and woodland of the North York Moors. All of your home comforts are found within this inspiring hut, including a luxurious kingsize bed with a deep mattress and high quality linen, a working kitchen, and a bathroom with the option of soaking in the bath or starting the day with a refreshing shower.
The historic hill top village of Hawnby is a designated Conservation Area of traditional stone and pantiles roof cottages, with the local pub just a short walk away. The area is also a walker’s paradise, with an enormous selection of footpaths and bridleways to choose from, including the nearby Inn Way and Cleveland Ways long distance paths. What could be more romantic than an escape to the country in a bespoke shepherd’s hut, enjoying a home cooked meal with a glass of wine out on the decking as the light fades and the colours of the sunset ebb across the sky.
Dreamer’s Hut is only 6 miles from Helmsley, one of Yorkshire’s finest market towns. This renowned market town is where the North York Moors and the Howardian Hills meet, offering fine historic views and countryside with a reputation for great Yorkshire hospitality. The market square is a meeting point for walkers, cyclists and locals alike. There are also many shops, cafés, eateries including Michelin starred restaurants, an open-air swimming pool, walled garden, castle, bird of prey centre, microbrewery, two abbey ruins and the stately home of Duncombe Park.
The Dreamer’s Hut is named after ’The Hawnby Dreamers’ - three local shepherds who in the mid-1700s, fell asleep whilst working in the fields on a hot day in the adjacent valley of Ladhill Ghyll, of which the hut overlooks. The shepherds awoke to discover they had each had the same vivid dream of spiritual awakening and being called to change their lives for the better. The three subsequently walked to Newcastle to hear the preaching of the famous John Wesley and converted to Methodism, bringing this faith back to Hawnby. Absolutely outstanding from start to end. The Hut was spotless and had everything you needed. The views are breathtaking, the woodfired hot tub was lovely and took about 3 hours to heat up. The cosy pub across the road was lovely too and food delicious, the locals so friendly. Me and my little fluff Waffle 🐕 had the best time and im already looking to come back next. Would definitely recommend 💯

This is our second visit, an excellent shepherds hut with a lovely back story, the location could not be more perfect , the hot tub is a real bonus, lying watching the stars at night is amazing as it’s a dark sky area , the pub in Hawnby ,called the owl serves absolutely incredible food.

The Dreamers HutIf you are after somewhere to get away and completely switch off from the noise of the world, this place is for you!Surrounded by beautiful Yorkshire hills and located in the remote town of Hawnby (The Hawnby Estate) this place has loads of character. It's a stunning little cabin, with a cottage feel and I'd love to give it 5 stars, however, my partner and I had a few little notes.The cabin is really easy to find, it's well sign posted - I was a little nervous putting the car where advised for unloading as it was a little steep and all grass. On a wet day I could see my car getting stuck in the mud! haha. Parking by the pub extremely close by is more convenient, but involves navigating a steep bank.Key box is easy to locate and use, however once we had the key and went to the door we were greeted by a fly on the inside (1 fly, fine no biggie) as soon as we opened the door we were in double digits - I know from working in hospitality that while cleaning they'd just open the doors, air the place out but I'd prefer my stay not to start with having to get 10-15 flies out the door.A lovely welcome note, with a little reminder for the contact numbers and hamper with tea, coffee, milk, Shlore and teacakes - nice touch!We unloaded the dogs to let them run around, (its perfect for 2 SMALL dogs as stated on the booking site) the garden area is a lovely size but there is a drop to a steep bit into long grass which for my blind dog was something I had to keep and eye on - might be nice if this bit was fenced off too. Sitting on the bench watching the sheep and country side change throughout the day was a highlight. Didn't get a chance to use the hot bath but there was instructions on how to and everything looked to be there handy to use.Bathroom lovely and clean but the sliding door is a bit fiddly as it can just slide open with a little tap.Windows and doors could do with a clean around them as that dusty mould has settled in. I think the curtains and blinds could do with replacing as the mould has also go to them.The kitchen is small but will work for 2 people, we would have liked another pan or 2 and some more baking trays for the oven as these were limited. Glassware, ideally bigger water glasses and a beer glass would be great - plenty of wine glasses though!Somewhere to hang or put clothes would have been nice too - I understand with such a small space you need to be clever with the design but we had to live out of our bag and store this on the table as even the space under the kitchen benches are taken up with cleaning supplies.The bed was comfortable and clean. Pillows were a little flat though. Sleep quality was impacted by the fridge freezer, which periodically alternated between silence and a notable rumbling/buzzing every hour. It was so bad (as a light sleeper) that we had to actually turn the fridge off during the night. The oven clock light was quite bright and almost like sleeping with a night light on.We went Mon-Fri and so sadly didn't get to use the local amenities more than once as the owl is only open Wed - Sun & the local shop and bakery is only open Fri - Mon.We had a meal in the pub on the Wednesday, lovely staff and the bar allows dogs in - food is nice but quite pricey and its limited for vegetarians. The local bakery/shop we nipped to after check out the guy who runs it lovely and very welcoming - again a little pricey. Immediate walks in the area are not ideal, but 15 minutes drive either way to Helmsley or Thirsk provide great bases to explore and buy supplies.One final note - I think an "Occupied" OR "Private Property" sign on the gate would be a good idea as we had a photographer come down the path and ask to photograph the venue - I did say it was fine at the time, but not really something I wanted to deal with on my holiday. We also noticed a few people go into the area to look around while we sat and had drinks at the pub.Overall the stay was very pleasant and would be somewhere we'd come back to but possible try one of the different venues on offer on the Estate.
