When it's time to eat, choose from a variety of eateries in Wakefield, or cook at home in your well-equipped kitchen area, which includes a washing machine and dishwasher. You can dine at the table for four or set up on the breakfast bar before venturing out. The ground floor hosts a beautifully-appointed bathroom to unwind with a bubble bath or in the shower over, while your towel warms on the heated rail. For the adrenaline seekers, Pugneys Country Park has plenty of watersports to choose from, as well as stunning walks and the fascinating ruins of Sandal Castle close by. Further south lies the Yorkshire Sculpture Park, Whistlestop Valley for steam train rides, and the National Trust's Wentworth Castle Gardens. Alternatively, hop on the train and spend a day in Leeds for a taste of history at the Thackray Museum of Medicine, get inspired by Leeds Art Gallery, and find an abundant nightlife with plenty of restaurants, bars and evening entertainment. On the outskirts, the atmospheric ruins of Kirkstall Abbey, Temple Newsam, and Harewood House Trust are all worth a visit, or perhaps you'd prefer visiting an incredible collection of plants at Tropical World? The market town of Huddersfield is also within easy reach, whether you explore the town or hike to the top of Castle Hill. The city boasts rich history surrounding The Battle of Wakefield during the Wars of the Roses, as well as being a Royalist stronghold in the Civil War and an important trading centre, with plenty of attractions to explore that perfectly sum up such events, including the Wakefield Museum & Library, the National Coal Mining Museum for England, and more. Wakefield offers more than just a history-rich day out; it also has a great selection of restaurants, cafés, and pubs and a vibrant nightlife with plenty of bars. There are also a variety of shops, from independent to high street names, excellent for a day of shopping. The city also has The Hepworth art museum, named after Barbara Hepworth who was born there, the Theatre Royal, created by architect Frank Matcham, where you can enjoy musicals, theatre, live music, stand-up comedy, and dance, as well as Sandal Castle and the city's majestic cathedral. Visit Nostell, a National Trust Palladian villa with a beautiful park and gardens, or Pontefract Castle, with so much history in the region. Leeds offers a bustling environment at any time of day, with stunning architecture, a wealth of museums and galleries, shopping, and cafes. Bradford, Halifax, Sheffield, Doncaster, and more are easily accessible for day trips, and the Peak District National Park can be reached by a picturesque drive.
