Around and About

Newton is an unspoilt village on the edge of the North Yorkshire Moors National Park with its own, centuries-old duck pond and village green. Situated on a limestone plateau close to the stunning valley of Newton Dale near Pickering, it is very close to local attractions such as the unique and mysterious earthworks of Cawthorn Roman Camps and the Roman road, ‘Wade's Causeway'. Newton itself is a pretty cluster of stone farms and cottages round the village green and duck pond. There is superb walking to be found here, as well as riding and cycling. The famous steam railway runs close by in Newtondale. Castles, abbeys, stately homes, market towns and picturesque fishing villages are within easy reach. York is 30 miles away, coastal cliffs and sandy beaches about 20 miles. The village is high on the North York Moors in the National Park, renowned for its spectacular sweeps of heather moorland, abundant wildlife and for its homely stone-and-pantiled farms and cottages.

The North York Moors National Park covers 554 square miles, with landscape ranging from heather-clad moorland and deep secluded dales, to the cliffs and coves of the magnificent coastline making it a haven for walkers.
