Close-by there’s a children’s play area and public footpaths to Pickering and Thornton Dale – each within 1.5 miles – while the local farm shop and café serve up a taste of Yorkshire life. Head into the National Park and at Dalby Forest (5 miles) you’ll find hiking and biking trails plus a Go Ape high-rope course. At a similar distance, Flamingo Land theme park and zoo offers further fun for all ages. Fancy a day at the seaside? Hop on a heritage railway train from Pickering and at Grosmont station you can connect to the Esk Valley Line for a fuss-free journey to Whitby (21 miles). Visit the medieval walled city of York (26 miles) and enjoy perusing the many independent shops, eateries and museums on offer.

Parking right outside makes light work of the unpacking; before you walk beneath the covered porchway and into a heated boot room. Take the door on the left and the open-plan living space has a comfortable corner sofa and large Smart TV on the wall above an on-trend flame-effect electric heater. Beyond, a dining suite sits close to the contemporary kitchen. The kitchen has all the essentials needed for a fuss-free self-catering stay, including a wine cooler, dishwasher and washer/dryer, plus additional bar-style seating. When it’s time for bed, stairs lead from one corner of the lounge to the sanctuary-like rooms, each with Hypnos mattresses and thoughtful finishing touches. Choose the master bedroom and you’ll have a king-size bed, walk-through dressing area and your own TV. The second bedroom has twin single beds and, at the end of each, a TV with PlayStation4 allowing multi-player games before lights-out. A door to the right leads into the family bathroom.

The fun continues outside, where the decked terrace includes lounge and dining furniture plus a BBQ and – for the ultimate in luxury – a hot tub that’s optimally heated to around 38 degrees and covered by a canopy so you can lay back in the bubbles whatever the weather.
