Bellafax Cottage is highly praised for its peaceful, rural setting and cosy atmosphere. Guests appreciate the welcoming hosts and the property's proximity to local attractions. The presence of farm animals adds charm, and the cottage's cleanliness and facilities receive positive remarks. Some guests mention thoughtful touches like homemade cakes and fresh flowers, enhancing their stay.
Guests consistently describe the cottage as clean, with fresh linen and well-maintained rooms. There is a single mention of cobwebs, but this seems an exception rather than the rule.
The location is frequently highlighted as ideal, offering tranquillity, beautiful views, and convenient access to local towns and attractions like Whitby, York, and the North York Moors.
The majority of guests find the cottage comfortable, noting its cosy fire and peaceful environment. A few guests had specific personal preferences regarding seating and back support, but these are individual opinions rather than widespread issues.
Facilities are generally well-regarded, with the cottage described as well-equipped and offering everything needed for a stay. There are minor comments on hot water delay and cleaning aids, but overall satisfaction is high.
Many guests mention thoughtful gestures such as homemade cakes, fresh flowers, and a warm welcome. While these are appreciated, it is important to note that such personal touches, though common, are not guaranteed for every stay.
Pickering 3 miles. This attractive red brick, detached cottage is situated on the owner's working farm, amidst arable farmland, between Pickering and Thornton-le-Dale. In a tranquil and peaceful location, the property is well placed for exploring the beautiful scenery of the North York Moors National Park, but within a short drive of the popular seaside towns of Scarborough and Whitby. Traditionally furnished and decorated, there is a cosy sitting room with a lovely roaring open fire to relax by on the cooler evenings, whilst the separate dining room enables guests to spread out and provides a good selection of books, DVDs and games, ideal for a rainy day.
Upstairs are two spacious bedrooms, with views over the open countryside of Ryedale and the family bathroom. To the front of the cottage is an enclosed walled garden, perfect for a morning cuppa before heading off for the day. The popular, historic market town of Pickering lies just three miles away, with its castle, museums and the terminus to the North Yorkshire Moors Railway. Why not take a step back in time and enjoy a wonderful steam train ride through the spectacular scenery and heather-clad moors to Grosmont? The idyllic and much photographed village of Thornton-le-Dale is a delight, with tempting tea rooms, pubs and independent shops set around the village green and a pretty stream meandering through the main street.
There are a wealth of attractions in the area, including stately homes such as Castle Howard and Duncombe Park and beautiful gardens at Scampston and Helmsley. With the coastal resorts just thirty minutes’ drive away, Bellafax Cottage offers something for everyone.
The beautiful market town of Pickering is located on the North Yorkshire Moors National Park border. According to town legend, it was founded by Peredurus, a king who ruled during 270 BC. Pickering is filled with flowing streams and limestone hills, creating a spectacular and dramatic backdrop. For evenings out, the town has plenty of theatres, leisure centres and live music; an annual Jazz Festival is held during the month of July.
