The Old Dairy is a charming, recently refurbished and well-equipped character cottage situated in the picturesque village of Muker at the head of Swaledale.
Set in the heart of the North Yorkshire Dales this delightful cottage offers a rural and relaxing retreat. It overlooks Straw Beck and provides a beautiful setting in a truly stunning part of the National Park.
Inside the cottage you will find a lovely, newly installed fitted kitchen with everything you need to cook your meals.
In the lounge you’ll have ample space to relax and watch your favourite films whilst also providing a dining table and chairs for those cosy meals.
When it’s time for bed, head upstairs to a large king-sized bedroom with lovely views from the two windows, or to the smaller singe bedroom which again boasts stunning views.
The newly appointed bathroom is fitted with a large walk-in shower, ready to refresh you each morning.
In the beautiful village of Muker, you’ll find Muker Village Store & Teashop where you can stock up on essentials and enjoy a delicious breakfast or afternoon tea, and on the evenings you don’t feel like cooking make your way to the community owned Farmers Arms for a heartwarming meal in this traditional popular Dales pub, which was once visited by the now King Charles III.
Next to the pub you will find Swaledale Woollens where you can find gorgeous handknitted items.
Muker also hosts The Old School Art Gallery & Craft Centre with its displays from local artists and for some local history spend time in the Literary Institute where you’ll find fascinating photographs of years gone by.
The historic landscape of Swaledale is rich in wildlife, rivers and waterfalls, ancient paths and tracks and provides an ideal base. You will never run out of stunning walks and hikes, including Kisdon Force, Wain Wath waterfall, Ivelet and other quaint local villages all within walking distance from the cottage.
If you wish to explore the area further, take a drive over the scenic Buttertubs Pass, visit the town of Hawes or drive to the lovely market town of Richmond and explore its Castle, a well-preserved fortress that offers stunning views of the surrounding countryside.
Also nearby is the imposing Bolton Castle offering a fascinating glimpse into life during the 14th century. Hardraw Force, which is England’s highest single drop waterfall, showcases the raw beauty of nature and Aysgarth Falls Yorkshire Dales National Park Visitor Centre where you can explore the stunning triple flight waterfall or take a leisurely stroll through the surrounding woodland.
The Old Dairy makes the perfect base to enjoy a relaxing break in this beautiful area.
Hawes is a popular market town in the Richmondshire district of North Yorkshire and is regarded as one of the honeypot tourist attractions of the Yorkshire Dales National Park. Standing between Buttertubs and Fleet Moss, the town is an excellent centre for walking and touring Wensleydale and the adjoining dales of Swaledale, Cotterdale, Dentdale, Garsdale, Wharfedale and Chapel-le-Dale. Take a walk around the Hawes Town Trail, Millennium Walk, Pennine Way or along the River Ure, which is nearby. In 1998 Hawes was awarded the English Tourist Board Silver Award for the "Best Day Trip Out". Modern traffic has long replaced coaches and horse drawn wagons along its narrow streets, but market day (Tuesdays) in Hawes is as busy as ever, with a farmers’ auction attracting sheep farmers from all over the north of England. Traditional shops, cafés and inns now cater for a variety of Dales visitors as well as the local community. The award-winning Wensleydale Creamery, made famous by the animated Wallace and Grommit films, is now open to visitors so that they can see the famous cheese being made and sample the end product in a welcoming café. In the old station yard you will find the busy National Park Centre and Dales Countryside Museum. The Museum is home to the magnificent collection of Dales artefacts by the two great Dales historians and writers, Marie Hartley and Joan Ingilby.
