Welcome to this delightful cottage in the heart of Richmond, one of North Yorkshire’s many bustling market towns and a haven for foodies, walkers and cyclists. Ideal for a couple seeking a romantic weekend away, the cottage features a smart lounge/diner, a cosy decked area and easy access to attractions in Swaledale and the Yorkshire Dales National Park.
The two-storey cottage stands off one of the many narrow streets that wind their way towards Richmond’s cobbled marketplace and the River Swale. The interior is a blend of original features and contemporary soft furnishings, and the colour palette and the arrangement of the house is welcoming to guests. After stepping down into the lounge/diner, eyes will be drawn towards the exposed wooden beams and flagstone flooring before everyone settles on the comfortable sofas in front of the wood burner. The well from which the cottage takes its name is a key feature of the nearby kitchen, which has plenty of space for foodies to work their magic. The en-suite double bedroom upstairs is a real treat, with plenty of natural light pouring in from windows on one side. A door in the bedroom leads out onto a decked terrace with a table, seating and views of Richmond Castle. Steps lead down to a walled terrace which has seating and access to a storage cellar that doubles as a utility room.
Richmond sits on a hill above the River Swale and as well as being filled with shops, pubs and eateries, enjoys a plethora of cultural, historic and natural attractions. The town has a fantastic Norman castle and it’s easy to walk between here and the River Swale. Both Swaledale (of which Richmond is the capital) and the Yorkshire Dales National Park (2.5 miles) are hugely popular with walkers, cyclists and nature lovers.
