The Golden Fleece Hotel dating back to Tudor times is a former coaching inn standing proudly on the cobbled market place in the centre of Thirsk. The hotel is perfectly positioned for local attractions which include the award winning James Herriot museum, Thirsk racecourse, the cinema, local leisure centre and many shops, cafes, restaurants and pubs. The ancient city of York with its winding streets and Minster and the beautiful spa town of Harrogate are both within easy driving distance and the charming coastal resort of Whitby can be reached in just under an hour by car. Thirsk lies between the Yorkshire Dales and North Yorkshire Moors national parks, beneath the famous White Horse on the Hambleton Hills. A range of activities such as gliding, walking, pony trekking, mountain biking, fishing and golf are all available nearby. The Golden Fleece is a very comfortable place to stay and to dine. The 25 bedrooms are individually decorated with all modern amenities. For that special occasion the hotel has two fours-poster bedrooms. In the morning guests can enjoy a traditional Yorkshire cooked breakfast, cereals, fresh fruit, toast and preserves fruit juice, tea and coffee. Meals can be enjoyed in the pleasant, relaxing atmosphere of the restaurant or in the Paddock Bar with its racing memorabilia and views across the market square. Wherever possible food is sourced locally and prepared with care in the hotels kitchens. The charming Writing Room is the place to enjoy a quiet morning coffee or afternoon tea around an open fire lit during the winter months. The hotel has a range of function rooms; the elegant Ryedale room is perfect for small private dinners and meetings, whilst the versatile Richmond room can be used for conferences, dinners and dancing. The hotel is licensed to hold civil ceremonies.
