Among the many picturesque towns in the Yorkshire Dales, Grassington stands out. A monthly farmer's market features a tantalising selection of organic and handcrafted local produce, and quaint stone homes and stores line the cobblestone market area, providing remarkable shopping facilities for a hamlet of this size. Located on the banks of the Wharfe River and bordered to the north by the expansive Grass Woods, this is an excellent walking location. Bolton Abbey, with its ruined abbey, priory, and famous "Strid Walk," may be found down dale. The picturesque town of Ilkley may be found not much farther on, with the world-famous Ilkley Moor towering over it. Kettlewell and Buckden, located up dale, are surrounded by breathtaking limestone landscapes. Grassington is a fantastic home base for discovering the surrounding area and everything that the Dales have to offer, including Bront Country and York, as well as the many other scenic areas found across Wharfedale.

Accommodation was spotlessly clean, warm and extremely comfortable. Great location for local pubs and cafes. We tried a few and they were all good! Ideal base for walks both local and further afield. Local buses worked well. We had a lovely time and would not hesitate to return.

There were some issues with our stay that need addressing to make the stay better. Listed in order of severity and importance. 1. The guttering right above the front door has separated at the joint and because the weather was so bad there was a constant stream of water pouring down right in front of the door. 2. The first floor cloakroom would have been very handy, but the door is warped (or swollen) and does not close at all, this made the cloaks unusable for mixed company and we used it for storage. 3. The next issue has been mentioned before in previous reviews and we felt warranted another mention - The front door needs some kind of blind or maybe opaque glass/film - it feels very exposed especially during the hours of darkness. 4. This next point was very relevant during our wet weather stay - the very small mat at the front entrance is inadequate. The entrance hall was constantly wet and we ended up putting newspapers down. 5. Starter pack - there were no logs left as stated and one toilet roll in each bathroom we felt was a little stingy in a 'high end' holiday cottage. 6. Welcome pack - we have stayed in many Sykes Cottages and are used to getting a welcome pack which we feel is a nice touch. This time we got a pint of milk and four biscuits. 7. Minor point - No milk jug? Please note, these points have been highlighted to help improve the property for any future guests. We enjoyed our stay in Darrowby Barn and would recommend it providing the points raised were resolved.
