About this Luxury Holiday Cottage

One of 3 properties in the pretty and historic hamlet of Merrydale, near Slaithwaite, Tyas Cottage is within easy reach of the National Trust's Marsden Moor, the Huddersfield Narrow Canal and The Pennine Way.

Despite its secluded and rural setting, Huddersfield is less than 10km away and Halifax is a mere 14km from the property.

Tyas Cottage is Grade II Listed by the local authority.

Accommodation

Furnished mainly with antiques and containing original artwork.

The York stone ground floor is under-floor heated and all the central heating is fuelled by wood pellets.

The large farmhouse kitchen has a 1.8m diameter antique mulberry wood circular table and a corner sofa.  It is often used as a second living room.

The upstairs living room is unusually spacious and has a balcony with stairs down to the private barbecue area.

Massive roof beams and elegant Cape Dutch and English antiques contribute to this unusual property's air of distinction.

Two particularly lovely large antiques are the Cape Dutch yellow wood armoire and the hand carved mahogany 4 poster bed.

A log burner is in the living room and we supply guests with a free basket of logs.

As you would expect from a luxury property, it has all the usual mod-cons.

Bedrooms / Bathrooms

 Upstairs:

Master bedroom with double four poster bed and en-suite bathroom (with bath).

Twin bedroom with en-suite bathroom (with bath).

 Downstairs:

Twin bedroom.

Separate shower room across the hall from the twin bedroom - ideal for guests with limited mobility.

Outside

The private paved garden can be accessed on two levels - either from the spacious downstairs hall or by using stairs that lead down to it from the balcony off the upstairs living room. A BBQ, swing seat and table and chairs are in this area. This area can be made secure for pets.

Most of our guests also take full advantage of our shared garden.

The large hanging pods have been a huge success.  As they are right next to the millpond that was made for the first water-powered mill in the Colne Valley, they provide a wonderfully comfortable spot for bird-watching.  They were made by Brian Fell and we are delighted to display some of his other work in the garden.

Children particularly love our giant swing that extends over the waterfall, the free to-roam woodland, the pods …....and just playing in the river.

The wider environment is also idyllic.  Our shared garden is bounded by Merrydale Clough (a small river), an impressive waterfall and the ancient pack horse route between Halifax and Manchester.  The pack horse route takes one up through steep woodland to The Rose and Crown. (Their Cop Hill Beer and marine pies should not be missed.)

Directions to Tyas 5 Star Self Catering Cottage

Alas, it isn't easy to find and Google Earth has put us in the wrong location.  Suffice to say, we're tucked away about half-way between Marsden and Slaithwaite.  Detailed directions will be sent on application.  There is a good perspective map of The Merrydale Walk on our locations page on our own website.
