There is a pub and a general store in this quaint community, and Offa's Dyke passes right through the centre of town. It is adjacent to the location where scenes from the popular 1995 film "The Englishman Who Went up a Hill but Came Down a Mountain" were shot. Wonderful picturesque walks and cycle paths, including as the Berwyn Ridge Pathway, the Offa's Dyke Path, and through the gorgeous Tanat and Ceiriog Valleys, can be found all throughout the area and extend into the Berwyn Mountain Range. Travel to the nearby market town of Ellesmere or the riverside town of Llangollen, home to the World Heritage Site Pontcysyllte Aqueduct, Chirk and Powis Castles and Gardens, Erddig, and Attingham Park. The Welsh mountains and coast, as well as the beautiful Lakes Vyrnwy and Bala, are just a short drive away, as are the historic towns of Shrewsbury and Chester, both of which were founded by the Romans. Fantastic location, so peaceful and remote so great for private romantic trips. Hot tub was great and the owners even started it up for us before we arrived so no messing around waiting for it to heat up. Owners so lovely, Pete took us for a tour of his farm and its was great seeing the hills and lots of sheep.

The moorhen retreat is one of the most relaxing places we have been for a long time. The hut is gorgeous and time has been taken to make it feel like home away from home. The hot tub is incredible and really holds its heat unlike previous wood fire hot tubs we have used. Nothing to fault here. Will be booking here again.
