In the 16th century, the cottage started its life as a simple timber, wattle and daub, thatched property, with a hole in the roof acting as a chimney. Families would sleep in the upper space, using a makeshift ladder, whilst animals would sleep downstairs. During the 17th century, a staircase would have been made, to give better access to the upper floor. The cottage was extended in the 18th century, when a bread oven was installed in the inglenook fireplace. This is what gave the cottage its name Batchcott (bread supplied/cottage). In the 1930s the cottage was further extended to become a ‘proper’ house. It was then modernised in 1978 as a granny annexe.

Prestigious standard .. attention to detail in every room. This beautiful thatched detached cottage stands in the most beautiful grounds and the wild garden and wildlife is a joy to behold. Enjoyed sitting on the terrace watching the woodpeckers and other birds on the bird feeding station.. even binoculars and a bird book to identify the species. The summerhouse is a delightful addition. The property is well equipped with everything from a carafe to picnicware to champagne glasses. Dishwasher was an added bonus ! The fruit loaf must have a special mention! The experience was 5 star and you will not be disappointed !
