About this property

Little Hereford 1.2 miles. Shire’s End is a unique, underground pod built into the hills on the grounds of the owner’s farm close to the hamlet of Little Hereford, Shropshire. With sweeping country views and a charming interior, Shire’s End is a wonderful base for a couple seeking a stay in this beautiful part of the country. Step into this delightful base and discover the wooden interior, complete with timber taken directly from Sherwood Forest. Make use of the kitchen space, well-equipped given the size of the pod, featuring an electric oven and hob, microwave, fridge/freezer and coffee machine, so you can prepare meals with ease. Serve your culinary creations at the breakfast bar before relaxing on the armchairs and tuning into the TV. End each day with a refreshing shower before retiring to the double bed and dreaming about your next adventure. Just outside to the front of the pod is a small seating area where you can sit back and appreciate the tranquil farm setting. When you’re ready to explore, head into Ludlow and wander the medieval streets, popping in and out of independent shops before choosing from a range of excellent dining and pub options. Head into the Shropshire Hills AONB and discover the Shropshire Hills Discovery Centre, Land of Lost Content, Stokesay Castle and Carding Mill Valley and the Long Mynd, in addition to an abundance of walking, hiking and cycling trails where you can truly immerse yourself in the interrupted natural beauty of the landscape. All this and more awaits at Shire’s End. Note: This property can be booked with Ref. 969150, together sleeping six guests.

Little Hereford, with its stunning Norman church, is a rural hamlet which nestles between Ledwyche Brook and the River Teme in beautiful South Shropshire and is set amidst scenic walking and cycling country. Just 5 miles away is Ludlow, one of the most beautiful towns in Britain; its medieval street pattern remains almost intact and provides a fascinating backdrop for the town's regular street markets, held in the shadow of the 13th century castle. Ludlow is renowned for its shopping and has several Michelin starred restaurants, as well as excellent tea-shops, pubs and inns. Within easy reach are Church Stretton known as ‘Little Switzerland’, beautiful Shrewsbury, Leominster and Hereford, as well as popular attractions such as the World Heritage Site at Ironbridge Gorge, Severn Valley Railway, Berrington Hall and the scenic Cardingmill Valley in the Shropshire Hills. We had a virtually fully self-catered 7 days and, while quite small as it needed to be, the fridge and freezer were ample and anything we didn’t have we could just pop to Tesco, Sainsbury’s or Morrison’s for - which was super convenient. The location itself is gorgeous and the views incredible. There is so much to see around the area and nearby. Being on the borders of Wales, too, meant visits there as well were straightforward and incredibly scenic! One wish that we’d have is that the mattress be a bit more comfy and the frame itself a bit less creaky - otherwise, we slept well and just cannot knock this incredible place. Our hosts were lovely, left us to it but were also there if we needed them - they left us some hobbit cakes on our welcome, together with some garlic grown last year. Both were utterly delicious!! Just remember to say if you’ve any intolerances/allergies as I’d not even thought to before we left. Finally, watching the extended (of course!!) LOTR trilogy from the imagined purview of a hobbit was an awesome experience!! Stay and have a wonderful time. We hope to return in the near future, too!

Great for exploring the area. Everything we needed was provided and a very thoughtful welcome basket with snacks and homemade cakes was there when we arrived. The only thing we would comment on is the shower was an electric one and wasn’t very powerful, apart from that everything was perfect.

The place was very well equipped and has everything we needed for a short break. Host was very friendly and welcoming, even a basket of Hobbit treats on arrival.
