About this property

The ideal place for a tranquil rural getaway for couples, families, and walkers, this 250 year old stone and brick cottage is situated on a National Trust common with spectacular views to the horizon of the Shropshire/Herefordshire border countryside and the iconic Clee Hill. Completely surrounded by fields and at the end of a country track the cottage has extensive mature south facing gardens covering approximately one acre, including a working vegetable plot with seasonal produce for you to enjoy and fruit that can be picked from the orchard in late summer. You can relax in the sun on one of two patios or down the garden in the shade in two further seating areas, all taking in the wonderful views. Enjoy a barbeque on summer evenings. For the walkers amongst you, the Shropshire Way, and Mortimer and Herefordshire trails all pass very close by, and Bircher Common, on which the cottage sits, is criss crossed with footpaths and ancient tracks, all with fabulous panoramic views. Three pubs with excellent food are within walking distance over the common and fields, along with the National Trust's Croft Castle, Croft Ambrey Hillfort, and Berrington Hall. The cottage is a 15 minute drive from both the market town of Leominster and historic Ludlow, and for seasoned walkers you can reach Ludlow on foot from the back gate via the Mortimer Trail. The cottage is close enough for you to explore the beautiful Welsh Border countryside and sections of the Offa's Dyke Path, with the literary centre of Hay on Wye only a 45 minute car ride away.
