Looking for an exciting city break to recharge your batteries?

Birmingham is a vibrant and busy city in the West Midlands full of attractions and fantastic eating options.

From the futuristic Bullring to independent boutiques on side streets, you'll find plenty of great shopping opportunities. Want to immerse yourself in history? Try the Back to Backs experience where you can see how people lived for the last 200 years, or Birmingham Museum and Gallery. For a spot of culture, catch a concert or play at the Symphony Hall or Hippodrome. Whatever tickles your fancy, you're guaranteed to have plenty to keep you busy in Birmingham.

To complete your trip, why not stay in one of our hand-picked Birmingham holiday cottages? Each one has been carefully selected for its charm, great amenities, comfort, and location. So whether you want to stay in a modern townhouse in the heart of the city or a cute and cosy cottage on the outskirts, we've got you covered.

Why choose a Birmingham weekend break or staycation?

Located in the heart of England, Birmingham is a fascinating city with a history dating back to the 6th century. Chock full of activities, shopping, restaurants, museums, galleries, and a unique vibe, Birmingham is the ideal choice for a unique city break, whatever the occasion.

Culture vultures won't want to miss St. Philip's Cathedral. This incredible building is an architectural wonder, as it's one of the few English baroque-style churches. You won't be able to stop staring at the amazing ceiling, the dramatic columns, and the beautiful stained-glass windows. Another building to add to your list is the Jacobean Aston Hall. The display rooms are packed with tidbits from the house's history and the pretty gardens are ideal for a relaxing stroll.

For more culture, head to the Birmingham Museum and Art Gallery. The galleries are filled with impressive art and collections from Anglo-Saxon gold and Egyptian mummies to dinosaur bones and fossils to Indian Bronze statues.

Want to treat yourself to a few new bits? The Bullring with its famous bubble facade is a hive of activity and excellent shopping. You'll want to visit the iconic Selfridges and indulge in the brilliant food hall.

If you're travelling to Birmingham with the kids, you'll find loads of top family-friendly attractions to keep them entertained. Get up close with marine creatures at the Sealife Centre and all kinds of other animals at Birmingham Wildlife Conservation Park.

Do you have a sweet tooth? Of course you do! Then a trip to Cadbury's World is a must. Don't forget to treat yourself to some tasty chocolate at the gift shop to take home with you. Let their imaginations run wild at the brilliant Thinktank Science Museum, or get a taste of life as a Brummie from the 1840s to the 1970s at Birmingham Back to Backs.

For an epic night out, head over to the Gas Street Basin. This was the centre of England's canal system, but today, it's the place to be for a fun evening in the city. There are lots of trendy bars, delicious restaurants, and pretty views for a late-night walk.

If you need a break from the bustle of the city, spend a few hours wandering around the idyllic Birmingham Botanical Gardens. These stunning gardens have four glasshouses filled with all types of flora, huge expanses of lawns and plenty of tropical plants from all over the world.

Choose from hundreds of beautiful Birmingham holiday rentals

A Birmingham weekend break promises fun, excitement, and quality time with the people you love most. Choosing a holiday cottage means you can see the city at your own pace, enjoy the attractions, and come home to a comfy and cosy cottage to relax and chat about your day.

Large groups will love our city centre apartments, while our townhouses with open-plan living areas are ideal for families. If your holiday isn't complete without your precious pooch, we have dog-friendly cottages with spacious enclosed gardens.

What our customers say about their holidays

This review is a month late.

Many apologies. Not intentional! Cream Door Cottage can be thoroughly recommended. A warm welcome on arrival followed by a cup of tea and a slice of cake from the welcome pack marked the start of what was to be an excellent week. The cottage was very comfortable with plenty of space for the two of us. Indeed there would have been plenty of space for four, be it two couples or a family of four. The second twin bedroom had an en-suite just as well equipped as the double, so there should be no disappointment from the children or a second couple. There was plenty of space to spread, with a conservatory leading off from the comfortable and spacious living room. The two bedrooms were not lacking in space either, and with a TV in each and a third in the living room, three differing tastes in TV entertainment could be accommodated simultaneously. It does say somewhere in the blurb that the floors are rather uneven. I wouldn’t argue with that, but after about two days I’d finally got my sea legs and I was fine after that. (Of course, that’s an exaggeration somewhat...) The unevenness adds to the charm! The cottage was very warm, when we needed it to be, with an easily operated boiler control. The timer was set to reasonable on/off times and we were able to use the one hour over-ride button when we stayed up late. Heating was extended to the conservatory, though we turned that right down as we didn’t need it in the evening. There was an electric oil radiator in there too, so I would think in winter time that room would be as cosy as the rest of the cottage. There is a very attractive cottage garden to the rear with table and chairs for al fresco dining. We didn’t take advantage but looked a very pleasant and secluded place to eat. There’s plenty of space at the front for two cars to park. The main reason for booking Cream Door Cottage was so we could visit a relative who is confined to wheelchair and have days out with her and her husband. Of course the cottage is totally unsuitable for a wheelchair user as a holiday base, but she did visit us one day and we found it just possible to get her in her wheelchair through the front door (with the aid of a ramp) and into the living room. Of course anyone else booking the cottage is unlikely to need that ‘feature’, but I mention it, just in case. All in all, Cream Door Cottage makes an excellent base for a couple, family of three or four, or family of three or four. We never did find the cream door though...

The directions were good and provided we followed the signs for the cattery we arrived at the front door of Cream Door without any problems.

Access to the property was very easy without any problems as was unloading since the drive and the front door were very close. The photographs and description were accurate and it was exceptionally clean and tidy. The owners live next door and were very helpful whenever we needed any help which was only on one occasion. There is plenty of information about the house and the local area including OS maps. We found the kitchen was well equipped for our needs. The beds were comfortable and the showers worked well with plenty of hot water whenever we needed it. The heating worked well for the two evenings when it was colder than expected for the time of year. TV reception was good for terrestrial television but because of its rural location the wifi is slow but it did work for browsing and email in all areas of the house. Cream Door is close by car to the centre of Kidderminster for shopping such as a large Tesco, M&S etc and the nearest public house (Mare & Colt, 5 minutes walk or 0.3 miles in footpaths) serves good local beer and pub food. It is also a good location for visiting Worcester, the Black Country and Birmingham. All in all a great let and since we have family nearby we hope to be returning at some stage.

House was lovely and warm and clean on arrival.

Rooms were adequate for our needs. The house was cold Christmas day as heating did not come on, I assume controlled remotely, we made necessary call, but no direct communication with us. This was uncomfortable for one 92 year old guest. However heating did return on the 26th, although two radiators upstairs did not work. The cutlery was lacking 5 forks and 4 knives, for 6 people, good thing we travelled with our own! The bins were not emptied, one was full the other half full. Improvements, shower curtain unhygienic as this was dirty at the bottom we had to tie this up, longer shower screen would be better. Property is in need of painting in some areas. Nice quiet area, adequate parking. Location quiet far from main shopping mall, but easy to find. Overall we enjoyed our stay, would come again.

Cream Door Cottage is immaculately clean.

The standard of the accommodation is exceptional. There is plenty of everything you need and more and everything is to an excellent standard, including the fact that the knives for preparing food are actually sharp and fit for purpose. There were also nice little touches such as usb sockets on some of the electrical sockets. A welcome pack of coffee and walnut cake, a bottle of water and some fruit was lovely. There were also tea bags and sugar in containers. The outside space is the best we have seen in our many cottage rentals with a beautifully planted border and a table and chairs for eating al fresco if desired. Ian and Lorraine were very friendly and welcoming.

The cottage totally exceeded our expectations, amd we wished that we had been staying for longer.

The kitchen is particularly well-equipped. The owners (who live in the adjacent property) are very friendly and helpful but not remotely intrusive. We are looking forward to our next visit. I should add that we did not choose the cottage for a holiday, but rather to provide one of us with a quiet space to write, and the other a convenient base for work during that particular week, so cannot comment upon it as a holiday destination. I am happy for my feedback to be published (and sent to the owners) but any publication must be anonymous.
