Birmingham is a vibrant and busy city in the West Midlands full of attractions and fantastic eating options.

From the futuristic Bullring to independent boutiques on side streets, you'll find plenty of great shopping opportunities. Want to immerse yourself in history? Try the Back to Backs experience where you can see how people lived for the last 200 years, or Birmingham Museum and Gallery. For a spot of culture, catch a concert or play at the Symphony Hall or Hippodrome. Whatever tickles your fancy, you're guaranteed to have plenty to keep you busy in Birmingham.

To complete your trip, why not stay in one of our hand-picked Birmingham holiday cottages? Each one has been carefully selected for its charm, great amenities, comfort, and location. So whether you want to stay in a modern townhouse in the heart of the city or a cute and cosy cottage on the outskirts, we've got you covered.

Why choose a Birmingham weekend break or staycation?

Located in the heart of England, Birmingham is a fascinating city with a history dating back to the 6th century. Chock full of activities, shopping, restaurants, museums, galleries, and a unique vibe, Birmingham is the ideal choice for a unique city break, whatever the occasion.

Culture vultures won't want to miss St. Philip's Cathedral. This incredible building is an architectural wonder, as it's one of the few English baroque-style churches. You won't be able to stop staring at the amazing ceiling, the dramatic columns, and the beautiful stained-glass windows. Another building to add to your list is the Jacobean Aston Hall. The display rooms are packed with tidbits from the house's history and the pretty gardens are ideal for a relaxing stroll.

For more culture, head to the Birmingham Museum and Art Gallery. The galleries are filled with impressive art and collections from Anglo-Saxon gold and Egyptian mummies to dinosaur bones and fossils to Indian Bronze statues.

Want to treat yourself to a few new bits? The Bullring with its famous bubble facade is a hive of activity and excellent shopping. You'll want to visit the iconic Selfridges and indulge in the brilliant food hall.

If you're travelling to Birmingham with the kids, you'll find loads of top family-friendly attractions to keep them entertained. Get up close with marine creatures at the Sealife Centre and all kinds of other animals at Birmingham Wildlife Conservation Park.

Do you have a sweet tooth? Of course you do! Then a trip to Cadbury's World is a must. Don't forget to treat yourself to some tasty chocolate at the gift shop to take home with you. Let their imaginations run wild at the brilliant Thinktank Science Museum, or get a taste of life as a Brummie from the 1840s to the 1970s at Birmingham Back to Backs.

For an epic night out, head over to the Gas Street Basin. This was the centre of England's canal system, but today, it's the place to be for a fun evening in the city. There are lots of trendy bars, delicious restaurants, and pretty views for a late-night walk.

If you need a break from the bustle of the city, spend a few hours wandering around the idyllic Birmingham Botanical Gardens. These stunning gardens have four glasshouses filled with all types of flora, huge expanses of lawns and plenty of tropical plants from all over the world.

Choose from hundreds of beautiful Birmingham holiday rentals

A Birmingham weekend break promises fun, excitement, and quality time with the people you love most. Choosing a holiday cottage means you can see the city at your own pace, enjoy the attractions, and come home to a comfy and cosy cottage to relax and chat about your day.

Large groups will love our city centre apartments, while our townhouses with open-plan living areas are ideal for families. If your holiday isn't complete without your precious pooch, we have dog-friendly cottages with spacious enclosed gardens.

What our customers say about their holidays

    • Pam - Verified booking

Whilst the property was finished to a very high building spec.

It lacked many things. E.G. no hairdryer, nothing to dry the clothes on when washed in the Miele washing machine (we had to go and ask for something). No basins, milk jug, scales, serving spoons, fruit bowl, casserole dish, dishwasher tablets (2 would have been nice), no chairs and table for the garden only a wooden bench for 2.! The Aga had been switched off for summer (we hadn't been told) so no hob to boil on. Only a microwave/convection oven that had no where to keep some of the food hot. There were information leaflets on the area but 2023 not 24. There were very limited instruction books for the appliances. No welcome pack. The kitchen is quite small to fit 6 people around the table and for you to move around the kitchen -- so difficult for 6 people. Having had many years using Sykes for great holiday experiences this was sadly not on that level. It could easily be improved, with proper utensils, pots and pans, casseroles etc. for the kitchen. but space in the kitchen was not good. The kitchen window has a great crack where something has hit it. As there is no pub close enough to walk to it is more essential to have a well equipped kitchen with a cooker with a hob and if not to inform potential hirers that this is the case. I notice on the previous feedback that they had experienced the same, but sadly didn't read this until we were in the property. added to which there was no information on local places to eat but no maps for walks, no games for children etc. no books not even a pack of cards.

What an amazing location and venue!

! This property is really stunning - we enjoyed lovely weather on our visit, and whilst it was a bit chilly, we still made use of the balcony. Our host - Peter, was exceptional, met us on arrival to show us around the property and explain things like the heating controls, upstairs lighting and parking. He has also very helpfully made contact with me in advance to advise on parking. We used the garage - which is small but fit one vehicle as promised, we used the permit just outside the property and manged to get parking in the pay and display very close by - it was sensibly priced with the whole weekend Fri-Mon costing around £15/16 This was in March. The house has any utensil and baking tray you need, and there was a lovely cake and some basics for us to enjoy on our arrival. We knew that the property was near to the castle, but we seriously underestimated how close! Brilliantly placed for the town too with plentiful options right on the doorstep. The town itself really caters for tourists too, the local Indian restaurant provided us with menus so that we could browse at our leisure ahead of our evening booking - and it was super tasty, although I've completely forgotten the name of it! Also, the tea shop just around the corner is very cosy and comfortable.

The Castle View property is in a wonderful location which is to die for, yet is in a very quiet lane right next to the Castle walls.

It is so close to the lovely Warwick Castle main entrance but remains quiet and uncrowded. It is really convenient for the restaurants and sights of the town centre, such as Lord Leycester Hospital, as well as having really easy to access other places in nearby Stratford, Kenilworth; Leamington Spa, and the countryside. Castle View is a fascinating house with lots of daylight, and an enclosed orangerie with seating and plants. It has a well-preserved ancient stone wall running along the back of the orangerie and living room at ground level. Our party of 5 people had loads of room here, and with 2 other regular family visitors during our week, we had enough space, including outside on the 2 balconies to enjoy the evenings in comfy chairs. We were able to park 1 car in the garage and another right outside, with the free parking ticket included. Ideal for a family get-together, such as we had there. Sykes kept us well-informed throughout, including COVID precaution updates, account due dates, and how to access the site re keys and parking permits.

Stunning property located in the heart of Warwick.

Quirky house with parking for 1 vehicle outside in permit area W2 and a small car in the garage. The other 2 vehicles were parked at Sainsbury's as only £14 for the weekend . FRIDAY - SUNDAY. Spotlessly clean and well looked after. Seating in the lounge was a bit wierd as it went round the corner but we pulled some chairs in from the dining room and used those as there were 8 of us. All utensils were available in the kitchen. Tea towels, washing up liquid. Loo rolls.. maybe a couple more bin liners as we decided as the house was so lovely to eat and drink in the evening instead of going out... lots of restaurants on the doorstep and available on uber eats. Highly recommended for something different in a beautiful town. Stratford upon Avon on the doorstep .. perfect weekend retreat wish we had booked Sunday evening to. What would be perfect is a hot tub on one of the balconies... now that would have been something with the view of the castle. Thank you Peter for sharing your lovely house.

We have just returned from a long weekend in Castle View.

The house is spectacular with fabulous views of Warwick castle and walking distance to the town centre, Lots of lovely terraces to enjoy the sunshine as well as the orangery to relax in. The kitchen was small but very well equipped. The bedrooms were large with comfortable beds and sumptuous duvets. Bathrooms were clean with lots of towels for guest use. The owner Peter was very friendly and efficient on text as he was unable to meet us due to Covid restrictions. He mentioned that he usually left a “welcome pack” but for some reason was unable to do that for us. The only negative for me as a female is the lack of dressing tables with mirrors and sockets. It’s a constant criticism even in some hotel rooms and I usually put it down to the fact that it’s been furnished by men!! Just a small table or even a shelf with mirror and socket would be great! Despite that small niggle, We would definitely recommend Castle View as a wonderful place to stay and explore the beautiful area.
