    Sudbury Holiday Cottages

Lying on the banks of the River Stour in south Suffolk, close to the border with Essex, is Sudbury: a historic market town with a population of just over 13,000. Its location makes Sudbury holiday cottages a fantastic base from which to explore both counties - and perhaps even make a day trip out to the coast for some time spent by the sea.

Settled in the 8th century, Sudbury was an Anglo-Saxon market town well known for its textile industries. The wealth accumulated from this funded many of the buildings and the churches in the area, lots of which still stand proud today. Sudbury is part of Constable Country: the picturesque landscape that inspired artist John Constable. The town retains its market status with a twice-weekly market held outside St Peter’s Church, frequented by locals and visitors alike. The Church itself now acts as a community hub for events and exhibitions.

Bookings made through Snaptrip are all covered by our best price guarantee, ensuring the same stay can’t be booked cheaper anywhere else. With thousands of holiday cottages on the site, you’re bound to find the ideal place to stay.

Lovely, thoughtful owners. Love the property. New build, beautifully finished. Best equipped kitchen we've encountered in any cottage and we've stayed in a lot; you could cook Christmas dinner here with no problems. Excellent cooker and kitchen. For dog owners, be aware there's no grass outside, shingle at the front like a beach, but there are lots of circular walks on pavements or a trip to the nearby Meadows, so not an insurmountable problem if your dog is up for pavement pounding. It was a very hot week when we stayed and property is South facing, so can be warm. Nice airy private courtyard at side for an evening drink with nice table and chairs, though be aware steps down are steep; we and the dog managed them safely both ways! As with all cottages, sofa and big chair a bit soft and tend to swallow those with older knees, dining chairs hard! Will bring a cushion next time! Lovely property, a real find for us. Made visiting family easy. We plan to return

Brilliant host obviously takes pride in providing a first class property with more than essential items included in every room and plenty of space which made it feel like home from home.

The cottages is light and airy and having stable door open was great. The lovely villages to visit locally as well as the one hour trip to find the sea at Felixstowe were a lovely surprise as never visited this area previously. Lots of walks and definitely a relaxing weeks holiday. Would have liked to have seen a breakdown of your company charges on the initial first page on your web site and also explained when speaking to your call centre who offered to complete the booking as I was having difficulty with my internet and then adding of a further small charge for that service.I was only given the total of my booking on the phone. I obviously expected a charge but on questioning the amount of £65 after receiving my receipt of my last minute booking I was told it is not a set amount or a percentage of the cost but automatically worked out. I am not criticising your follow-up emails or call centre service just your transparency of booking charges.

We spent a week in September 2021 in Stable Cottage in Sudbury.

Jenny, the owner, was there to welcome us and proved to be a very helpful and charming hostess. We appreciated her welcome pack of milk, bread, butter, marmalade and home made cookies. The cottage is very clean and comfortable and has recently been repainted. The kitchen is well equipped and the bathroom is modern with a walk-in shower. We slept well, despite the occasional traffic noise. The location of the cottage is perfect, as it only takes a few minutes to walk to the historic town square, local restaurants, supermarkets and the lovely meadows. Sudbury is the ideal base for visiting nearby Long Melford, Cavendish, Clare, Lavenham and Bury St. Edmunds as well as for longer trips to the coast, Sutton Hoo and Flatford Mill. There is so much to explore in this peaceful and picturesque county that we will definitely be back.

The Cartlodge is a short drive or about a 20 minute walk to the centre of Sudbury which has a market twice a week and a Waitrose and a Tesco so food shopping is very convenient. It is relatively modern and built to a high standard throughout with the kitchen being the standout room - it has a six ring hob and a double oven so for cooks it is very well-equipped. The main bedroom is very spacious with drawers and a wardrobe and the single is much more restricted in space and in my opinion would suit a child or smallish adult. There is a small and private courtyard garden reached via the front door and through a gate at the side of the property. We particularly enjoyed the welcome basket - especially the eggs from the owners own hens!

The cottage was light, spacious and clean.

It was well equipped and comfortable. However we would agree with previous reviews that chairs for the dining table would be more acceptable than stools.. Stable cottage was convenient for the town, and also river and meadow walks. Sudbury is a busy town with many independent shops and a good market. The walk from Sudbury to Bures was extremely scenic, with a rail replacement bus to return to Sudbury. There are so many nearby walks around Long Melford and Nayland incorporating some interesting old churches. There are also many coffee shops and restaurants. We recommend 'The Codfather' for fish and vegetarian dishes.
