Guests appreciate the scenic location, characterful accommodation, and the opportunity to explore the surrounding countryside. While some find the cottage's traditional features endearing, others note the need for updating facilities and improving cleanliness.

Several reviews mention issues with cleanliness, including dust and unclean surfaces, which suggests room for improvement. However, not all reviews are negative, indicating inconsistency in standards.

The location is frequently praised for its tranquillity, scenic surroundings, and proximity to local attractions, making it a well-regarded feature of the property.

Guests find the cottage to be full of character and generally comfortable, though some mention that the mattresses and pillows could be more comfortable, and the property may not be suitable for those with mobility issues.

There is no mention of gifts or special touches that would indicate thoughtfulness from the hosts, therefore this category cannot be scored.

About this property

A quintessentially English country thatched cottage, attached to the 15th century farmhouse but completely separate. With enormous character and olde-worlde charm and plenty of beams to admire plus a feature inglenook fireplace, this cottage will provide guests with a cosy welcoming farm stay. Approached from an old cobbled pavement and up a few steps into the open plan living room, the cottage feels homely and inviting, with chickens running free around the garden and farm cats relaxing in the sun on the garden benches. On the first floor there are two bedrooms and a shared bathroom complete with freestanding claw bath, ready for a good soak after a walk on the moor. Note: This property is next to Refs. 915882, 915850 and 915884, together they sleep 21.

Whichever way you approach the village of Bicknoller you are met with one of the most charming and picturesque villages on the Quantock Hills. The village is full of beautiful thatched houses, a village shop and an old thatched Inn, which provides a warm welcome. The village lies on The Coleridge Way, a long distance path running along The Quantock Hills towards the North Somerset coast.

There were many maintenance issues at the property that need attention to bring it up to modern standards. The internal floors were dirty and needed a steam mop. The lamp shades were so old they are brittle and breaking into pieces. The curtains were difficult to pull together and would benefit from polishing and the curtain pole above the door is broken and falls off when pulled on. We did not use the cooker as the fixing in the wall does not look safe to use with exposed wires . There is a plug socket in the dining room that needs finishing off as it has exposed wires. This could be dangerous for a child. There are holes in the bathroom that need filing and are currently filled with kitchen roll. The other side of the bed in the main bedroom does not have a lamp so its hard for the person at the right hand side to get up in night. The kitchen is tired and dated and knobs come off when the doors are opened. The wardrobes would benefit from some new coathangers but this is usually the case in most accommodation. The bath would benefit from an actual mixer tap rather than a plastic hose. There is a strong smell of damp in the living room which would benefit from air fresheners or scented diffusers which are great at combating the damp smells that are usual in properties of this age. Unfortunately we found that this property was not up to the modern standards we are used to but we did find the hosts friendly and helpful.
