Around and About

Used as the backdrop to Thomas Hardy's ‘Tess of the D'Urbervilles', the lush Blackmore Vale is also home to the little village of Henstridge, situated on the border of Somerset and Dorset. Henstridge itself has a village shop, pubs, restaurants and a café. It also offers lovely walks accompanied by fine views in the glorious countryside. The historic town of Sherborne is just a short drive away and was once home to the famous Sir Walter Raleigh. The National Trust operates a number of properties in the area such as Stourhead House and Gardens whilst the cathedral city of Salisbury, Stonehenge, Bath and The Dorset Heritage Coast are all in the near vicinity. This is a great base from which to explore Somerset and Dorset.

Somerset offers 3 areas of Outstanding Natural Beauty - the Quantock, Mendip and Blackdown Hills. Lose yourself in the glory of nature, take a ride on a steam train, visit a traditional farmers' market or explore your mystical side at Glastonbury.
