This single-storey converted barn lies in the grounds of the owners’ home. Set back from the road passing through the village, it truly feels rural surrounded by countryside, and is a stylish and luxurious base from which to explore the area. Great care and attention has been lavished on restoring and decorating the barn, with reclaimed floorboards throughout and some original stone walls kept intact. The secluded and private outside seating area overlooks the field beyond. The village of Meare is set on the beautiful Somerset Levels, by the River Brue. It is 3 miles west of Glastonbury and 10 miles from Wells, England’s smallest city. The area is famous for its nature reserves, a favourite of walkers and birdwatchers. Many people come here to watch the murmuration of starlings from autumn to spring. Both bitterns and otters have been successfully reintroduced onto the Ham Wall Reserve. Nearby Glastonbury has many visitor attractions, from the tor to the abbey, the array of individual shops with spiritual themes, and the annual music festival a few miles outside the town. The city of Wells has a magnificent cathedral with a 13th-century working clock, the cobbled medieval street and the Bishop’s Palace, as well as a lively weekly market in its cobbled square. Also, visit Cheddar Gorge and the caves at Wookey Hole and Clark’s retail village at Street. The cities of Bath and Bristol are within an easy drive, as is the county town of Taunton. The coastal resorts of west Somerset and north Devon can be reached within an hour. Shop, pub and restaurant ½ mile.

The cottage was beautiful and well maintained with all amenities. There was ample parking, outside seating and a nice welcome basket. The bedrooms were a good size and comfortable. We only had two slight problems. Firstly, the towels were not very big and secondly, the internet kept dropping off. The village of Meare is quite small. Although there is a pub, The Bird, in the next village it is about a mile away along a busy country road with no pavement. The food there is excellent and worth visiting. Otherwise Glastonbury has some nice eateries. We were particularly taken with The Queen of Cups. As for The George and Pilgrims - avoid!

Great stay at this cottage. Location is ideal for nature reserves and Glastonbury, Wells etc. and the cider farm at Mudgley!! Farm shop up the road. Lovely pub 15 minutes walk away with great food. The cottage has everything you need and set in lovely grounds with plenty of wildlife. Owner greeted us and gave us useful local information. Would definitely recommend a stay here and we hope to visit again.
