Located on the island of South Walls, one of the Orkney Islands off the northern coast of Scotland is the important coastal settlement of Longhope. Renowned for its rich maritime history dating back to the Napoleonic wars, the island South Walls is connected to Hoy by the Ayre causeway making it the second largest island in the Orkney Archipelago. Originating directly from the Old Norse word for ‘long bay’, Longhope’s main draw is its tranquil surroundings. Set in its own peaceful seclusion; you can tour the island and visit the impressively restored lifeboat museum that offers rich history on WWI and wwii or relish a hearty meal and cold beverage at one of several pubs on offer.
