The cottage lies in the hamlet of Lower Bockhampton, which was the setting for Thomas Hardy’s novel ’Under the Greenwood Tree. ’ The River Frome meanders through the village, home to a renowned restaurant, and you can walk or cycle along the river path to the county town of Dorchester with its many museums, shops and attractions.  Another walk from the front door takes you through the woods to Thomas Hardy’s cottage at Higher Bockhampton.  The lake and gardens of Kingston Maurward are on the doorstep, and golf and fishing are available nearby.
