Immaculately refurbished in late 2024, Jerards Stables is a luxurious first-floor retreat for up to four guests. Sitting at the heart of the Jacobean 2* listed Jerards Estate, this stunning thatched 16th century property above the stables invites you to unwind and experience Dorset at its very best.
Take a step back in time, as you are welcomed into the tiny Cotswoldesque Elizabethan hamlet of Jerards. Situated in the rolling green hills of the Dorset & Somerset border, just a few minutes from Sherborne, Jerards Stables was lovingly refurbished in late 2024 with exceptional attention to detail, and much care and thought given to comfort, style and the luxury touches throughout.
The first-floor accommodation sits above the actual stables which are still in use (don’t worry - the horses don’t snore!). Set within the stunning C. 16th thatched stable block and cobbled courtyard, the property retains many of its period features with open beams, timber panelling and cosy window seats, whilst offering the mod-cons and underfloor heating you’d only expect in a new-build.
Enter your cosy retreat via the hamstone staircase and the spacious, beautifully decorated open plan sitting and dining room with its high vaulted ceilings, artwork and interior designed furnishings immediately urges you to put your feet up. Sumptuous sofas and window seats invite you to unwind and enjoy the absolute peace and quiet, whilst the generous dining table is the perfect spot for breakfast, lunch or dinner. Your eyes will be drawn towards incredible views into the walled garden and towards the honey stoned manor house. The well-equipped kitchen provides everything necessary for preparing and cooking delicious feasts, whilst a separate utility and laundry room offers additional storage and prep space, with ample room for dog beds.
Both bedrooms are along the short corridor, with the master bedroom featuring a super-king size bed and double aspect windows, cosy window seats, with plenty of built-in storage. A stylish en-suite bathroom with free-standing claw footed bath, is your reward after long walks in the stunning countryside. The second bedroom has comfortable twin beds, which can also be configured to provide a second super-king size bedroom upon request. Opposite is the well-appointed family bathroom with a spacious walk-in rain shower.
Dogs are very welcome and guests are free to enjoy the 50-acre estate along with all its animals, together with an abundance of countryside walks nearby and on the adjoining ridges, offering spectacular views in every direction. A private garden seating area invites guests to relax, or for those feeling more energetic, a newly resurfaced tennis court awaits, across the cobbled courtyard. Nearby are numerous quiet villages to explore and great pubs within easy reach, with the local Mitre Inn just a 5 min walk down the bottom drive. An abundance of cafés, pubs, restaurants and shops await four miles away in Sherborne, along with its incredible Abbey, arts centre and two historic castles. Just 10 miles away you’ll find the renowned Newt Hotel and Bruton’s bustling boho yet authentic culinary and arts scene. Thank you very much for a lovely stay in your special cottage, and for the treats and your kindness. The Stables needs to be appreciated by a wider audience.
The L Family
Stunning setting, warm and friendly welcome, and superbly comfortable beds - what more could you ask for? The comfort of the stables even made up for the wind and rain at the beginning of our week. So glad we brought the tennis gear with us. It was great to be able to play and let off some steam after a day packed with culture. Sherborne is a lovely town to wander around and would also highly recommend Kingston Lacy and Forde Abbey. Thank you for sharing your beautiful estate with us. We would love to come back in the future.
The S Family
Thank you so much for a wonderful stay at the stables. We were greeted with a lovely welcome ands the accommodation is so comfortable - just what we needed for a long weekend. We enjoyed walking around the estate and further afield. Staying above the stables was so relaxing as was seeing all the animas and hearing the birds. A true "get away from it all" weekend.
