This is also the perfect base from which to explore the whole World Heritage Coast of West Dorset and East Devon.  The pretty and un-spoilt Dorset seaside town of Lyme Regis has many independent shops, pubs, restaurants and cafes as well as a sandy beach, harbour and seafront promenade.
