Ammonite Cottage in Wareham is highly praised for its prime location, comfort, and well-equipped nature. Guests appreciate the property's character, proximity to local amenities, and the thoughtful touches such as a welcome pack. While the steep stairs and parking are noted challenges, these do not detract significantly from the overall positive experience.
The cottage is consistently described as very clean, with only one mention of dampness due to weather, which seems an isolated incident rather than a trend.
The location is universally acclaimed for its convenience, being close to shops, pubs, and local attractions, making it an ideal base for exploring Dorset.
Guests find the beds comfortable and the cottage warm and welcoming. The steep stairs are a noted concern for some, but overall comfort is rated highly.
The cottage is well-equipped with high-quality goods, and guests feel they have everything they need. Some minor maintenance issues are mentioned, such as the need for extended handrails and door adjustments.
Many reviews mention a welcome pack and other considerate inclusions, which contribute to a pleasant stay. While such gifts are appreciated, they are subject to change and not guaranteed.
Ammonite Cottage sits in a mid-terrace position, bursting with character and within a short walk of the amenities of the wonderful Dorset market town of Wareham. It is an 18th century grade II listed cottage with numerous original features. The name Ammonite Cottage was chosen because the property lies on the Jurassic coast where so many fossils have been found. You can see some of them in the national museums, but there are also small local museums. If you are lucky you may even find your own fossils on the beach as many amateur fossil hunters have done before you. With a wealth of rustic features, this is an ideal stay for family and friends wanting to come together and get away from it all. Feel welcome from the moment you step in through the bright blue door; a cosy sitting room is enhanced by original stone flooring and a fabulous woodburning stove. A classy dining room rests adjacently, also warmed by an attractive stove. Rustle up each scrumptious meal in the wonderful country-cottage-style kitchen, laced with cream fittings and all of the appliances you will require, including a marvellous Rayburn, bringing a real sense of character. To enjoy the sun from the comfort of this homely accommodation, take a seat in the sun room which looks over the surprisingly large back garden. Ammonite Cottage lies across three floors; the two upper floors house the four splendid bedrooms. The first floor, graced with rustic wooden floorboards, plays host to a king, a twin and a single, all thoughtfully finished and served by a classy bathroom featuring an exquisite roll-top bath. Head to the second floor to discover a peaceful double room nestling under the eaves with exposed beams and Velux windows making it a truly delightful spot to get your rest. Embrace your fine countryside location by spending some time in the back garden; a series of lawn and patio areas offer a variety of spots to sit and relax. A short stroll brings you to Wareham's town centre with its amenities, museum and cinema. Wareham is accessible by train and there are also busses and trains to many other local sites such as Corfe Castle or local beaches. You can even catch a steam train from Corfe to Swanage. There is much to see and do nearby, from the astonishing countryside and coastline of the Dorset AONB to the stunning coastal resorts of Poole and Bournemouth both making for excellent day trips. Wareham still has most of its medieval walls which you can walk around today. Wareham is the gateway to the Isle of Purbeck. If you are fan of Thomas Hardy, Enid Blyton, Laurence of Arabia or history from stone-age onwards there is much to discover in the town and surrounding area. As well as walking fishing, sailing or simply relaxing. A remarkably unique cottage in a fantastic location.
Known as the Gateway To The Purbecks, this market town offers a selection of amenities as well as a museum and a cinema. The Dorset aonb is a nature reserve offering countryside, beaches, cliffs and hills, perfect for outdoor enthusiasts. The popular seaside resort of Bournemouth also comes nearby.

Well located near the centre of Wareham but still quiet in the evening, and good train and bus links. This allowed us to not have to drive everyday. The bedrooms and bathroom are roomy, but I felt that if the house had been fully occupied then the downstairs would have been cramped. As mentioned by others, the stairs are "scary" steep and this should be taken into consideration when booking the property (n.b there is a good bannister to help with controlling your descent). Two niggles for us were that the bathroom & toilet locks did not work well and that there was little hanging room in the bedrooms (for clothes and particularly for drying your towel). Overall we enjoyed a very pleasant week - thank you.

Felt very at home in the cottage. Enjoyed looking out of the window on to the street and seeing the bow windows opposite - and the world of Jane Austen or Dickens. Beautiful garden to sit in. Wareham is such an interesting town, but so down to earth. And all around is Dorset... In the cottage the stairs were a bit of a challenge, also the parking, but we overcame both with care.

Upstairs toilet door lock needs fixing and top floor door needs adjusting, so that it doesn't stick.
