About this property

Farrier's Lodge, formerly the blacksmith's cottage for Corfe Castle, with its workshop next door, and situated in the heart of this historic and charming traditional Dorset village.

It is a lovely, thatched, cosy cottage sleeping up to four people, and located just a stone's throw from the village square and the iconic castle itself.

This stylish cottage is decorated and furnished with a contemporary palette of blue and grey. A very cosy cottage with excellent bedrooms and comfortable beds. The sitting room is perfect for relaxing on the comfy sofas, watching TV or reading a book. There is a well-equipped kitchen with quality appliances to prepare meals and snacks.

Step outside to the garden straight through the French doors in the ground floor bedroom, or via the lounge, and enjoy an afternoon playing games, sunbathing or just having a picnic. The garden is beautiful and well stocked with plants and flowers, gardeners attending the property intermittently throughout the year for essential garden maintenance.

Farrier's Lodge is the ideal base to explore the Studland peninsula and Purbeck. It is a walker's delight with an abundance of walks right from the doorstep in every direction.

The iconic medieval and National Trust owned Corfe Castle ruins and the steam railway are just a short walk away. There are regular events and activities for families and children to enjoy when exploring the castle and a grandstand view of the landscape around. A short drive away from the village is Studland with its three beaches, and protected heathland which is a sanctuary for wildlife including many rare species.

Just a few miles away is the popular resort of Swanage with its array of shops and an award winning golden sandy beach. Swanage boasts a variety of cuisines but do try a Dorset cream tea and other local produce, especially freshly caught fish or a tasty crab sandwich. If you are feeling more adventurous you could take a walk to the breathtaking Old Harry Rocks.

This cosy and welcoming cottage in Corfe Castle is a wonderful base to explore Purbeck and all the delights around.

Cove Castle is a firm favourite with locals, sitting along side the Rodwell trail area, Cove Castle Beach is usually uncrowded, and offers safe bathing from it’s gently sloping shoreline. There are two main beach areas, Cove Castle, awaiting new steps to the beach in early 2019, and Sandsfoot beach, both with soft golden sand and the vibe of the best kept secret. Sandsfoot castle is just two minutes’ walk from the beach where you will find castle ruins, pretty award-winning gardens and a small café, offering snacks, drinks and ice-creams. Accessed off Old Castle Road in Weymouth, this area is a real treat for those who want to be away from the buzz and bright lights of the traditional Weymouth Seafront, and yet close enough to venture there when they choose. When you are on the beach you could be forgiven for thinking you are miles from town, and yet you are only a 15-20 minute walk from the old Harbour and access to Weymouth town centre. If you want to know where the locals would recommend you spend your beach days, then Cove Castle and Sandsfoot beaches are it.

Great location near to bus stops and a very short walk to the village square. My only bug bear was the lack of Wi-Fi that was advertised. The Wi-Fi name and code was scrubbed out in the visitors pack on the kitchen table.

Felt the cottage could do with updating and a few repairs but it didn’t stop us having a lovely holiday.

A brush was provided promptly when we asked . The only issue was the smell of damp in the downstairs bedroom as the curtains to the French doors are mouldy . Still a great place but we had abysmal weather !!
