About this property

Bere Alston 1.5 miles. Clamoak Cottage rests on the edge of the River Tamar in the Tamar Valley AONB, in Clamoak, close to the village of Bere Alston. This property dates from 1815 and can be found nestled within a majestic surrounding, offering the perfect base for a family or couple and their four legged friend looking to escape city life and enjoy the picture postcard views. After parking your car at its superb off-road parking spot, you will instantly be welcomed by the tranquil setting of this property. Stepping into the cottage you will look forward to spending time within the conservatory area which is perfect for enjoying your morning coffee, picking up a set of binoculars or simply admiring the changing tides, sunshine playing on the water and outstanding bird life on the foreshore and mudflats below. You can also observe the dynamic views from the comfort of the living room, both day and night as birds can be seen gliding and soaring across the mudflats and channel below as the tide comes in and out – an ornithologist's dream! During those chilly winter evenings, sink into the plush sofas with your loved ones, where you can get lost within a book or a TV programme while the warmth of the wood burning fire and the original exposed beams fills the room with charm. Beyond here, is the amply equipped kitchen boasting both induction/electric and AGA cooking facilities as well as a set of traditional units and wooden worktops with all the appliances you could need to cook up a delicious meal for your family or friends. As the evening draws to a close, retire for the night to the two well-presented bedrooms, sleep with the curtains and blinds open if you like waking to spectacular views. Spend a moment or two within the side and rear lawned garden area, where your canine companion can stretch their legs. Alternatively, there is a terrace patio area complete with furniture to the front of the property which overlooks the magnificent river views and distant Cornish countryside - a lovely spot to sit out and enjoy a refreshing beverage or a bbq, while watching the captivating sunset. This outstanding cottage is blessed with close proximity to the wonderful market town of Tavistock which enjoys an undeniable uniqueness, with breath-taking architecture and a fine selection of shops and dining opportunities. Bere Ferrers is a mile away (closer than Bere Alston); it’s where the Tamar and Tavy rivers join. The Olde Plough is a lovely mixture of old and new; with locally sourced produce and a rear courtyard garden to catch the west-facing sun with views across the river, this pub makes a lovely evening out, a lunch spot after a game of tennis or indeed a well earned drink after a Devon cycle ride. For the more adventurous guests, why not jump on your bike to the Tamar trails or the immediate locality, or for a more relaxed day trip, jump on the Heritage Valley Train line to wonderful Calstock and walk on to Cothele and its boatquay tea room. Tamar Valley AONB is home to an extensive set of footpaths and designated routes for cyclists. Clamoak Cottage is the ultimate location for friends, families and couples to relax and unwind and is a great location for walking, cycling and water sports.

Despite bad weather for the week we were there, we relaxed immediately and had a wonderful relaxing week. We would love to come back in the summer to enjoy the garden.

Well equipped, warm and comfortable. Perfect for walkers and bird watchers. Beautiful even in winter. We enjoyed our week, even though as older folk , we couldnt take advantage of the walks. Not very mobile, we found the steps and stairs a little difficult. However,I have already recommended Clamoak Cottage to my niece, and I know she and her family will love it. The owner was most helpful and a fund of information, thank you Fiona!

Bring what you need and just stay put. A comfortable, cosy warm cottage with an ever changing scenery through the picture window, right there, at the end of the garden! Get to know Mertil the Egret, watch the evening fly past of Elgar the Heron or just be mesmerized by the ever changing sky. Beautiful nature!
