About this property

Settled in the heart of the quaint Devon village of Bere Alston, Devon, is this Victorian, terrace cottage, Harmony House. Within a moments walk from a pub and choice of shops, Harmony House provides a charming base for up to six guests and their dogs looking to escape to this region of Devon. Internally, the cottage is surprisingly spacious with a touch of nostalgic charm; spend your down time in the lounge, furnished with three sofas so you can all gather to watch a movie on the Smart TV. Carry the conversation into the kitchen, where the designated chef can get to work a delicious meal, plus there’s a washing machine to help with the laundry. Enjoy mealtimes in the dining room before heading out to explore the sheltered lawned garden, with tropical planting, bamboo, olive trees, palms and a furniture set from which you can relax upon and take in the scene. Make your way to the first floor, featuring a super-king-size bedroom, double and a twin room, each neutrally presented. Less than a 100 yards away is a convenience store, perfect for grabbing the essentials, whilst there is a choice of pubs, takeaways and restaurants in the village. Those outdoor enthusiasts can join a myriad of walks and trails in the area, including several along the Tamar Valley Discovery Trail, Denham Woods and Denham Bridge, where you can appreciate riverside views. Six miles away is Tavistock, where you can dine at some of the excellent restaurants, tee off at the Golf Club or pick up local produce from the weekly market. Take off further afield to the attractions of Plymouth or see the animals at Dartmoor Zoo, before returning to Harmony House and recharging for the next adventure.

The area of outstanding natural beauty between the rivers Tavy and Tamar is home to the little Devon village of Bere Alston. The community historically had a busy port where tin from Dartmoor was shipped. Morwellam Quay, a tiny harbour on the river Tamar just upstream from Bere Alston, served as the passageway for half the world's copper in the 1860s and is today a well-liked tourist destination that chronicles the history of copper mining. Trains travel over the scenic Tamar Valley line between Bere Alston and Plymouth, mostly following the river. The community of Bere Alston has a store and a bar, and there are many beautiful rural hikes. Cotehele, a Tudor manor house with magnificent gardens extending all the way to the Tamar River, and Buckland Abbey, an estate on the Tavy River with artisan studios and family-friendly attractions, are two National Trust sites in the vicinity.
