About this property

Nestled in the charming village of Ashwater, Devon is this characterful, single-storey lodge aptly-named, The Great Escape. Featuring an enviable location near the Dartmoor National Park, with underfloor heating throughout, this log cabin, The Great Escape, which is hand crafted with bespoke wooden walls, welcomes four guests, perfect for a family or group of friends seeking a peaceful escape. After parking up, enter your new abode to be instantly impressed by the well-equipped kitchen, boasting everything you need to ensure a successful, self-catered stay; allow the budding chef to cook up a storm as you put your feet up in the inviting living/dining room, complete with Smart TV and a host of games, books and DVDs so you can enjoy cosying up for nights in with your loved ones. Serve up your culinary delights at the dining table, or venture outside to the private decking area where you can savour an alfresco affair and marvel at your setting a little while longer. Pop corks until the sun sets in the distance, then freshen up with use of the shower room before hunkering down in either the double or twin bedroom. When morning comes, get ready to set out into your lovely location; pay a visit to Okehampton Castle, where you can explore the castle remains and admire views across the Dartmoor National Park, or head to RHS Garden Rosemoor, a delightful garden that spans 65 acres. With Lydford Gorge, Roadford Lake Country Park and of course, the delights of the Dartmoor National Park itself, including an array of stunning landscapes, rugged tors and picturesque villages, you’ll never be short of things to see or do. Experience all of this and more, with a stay at The Great Escape.

A small settlement alongside the village of Halwill, Halwill Junction offers a modest scatter of amenities, perfect for any last-minute essentials or a rewarding beverage after a day spent exploring the area's Nature Reserve with its old railway lines and abandoned platforms. A place where trains used to run until the late 1960s when Dr Beeching replaced the sound of steam engines for that of flourishing wildlife. An extremely scenic settlement, it also boasts a pub, shop, Post Office and takeaway, catering for all of your requirements. Settled within the Ruby Country, you can expect to find tranquil lands all around, with plenty of beautiful scenery and nature to uncover. In close reach you can find the Dartmoor National Park, offering its visitors even more wonder in the form of wonderful archaeological sites, an abundance of wildlife alongside outdoor adventures such as climbing, horse riding, canoeing, cycling and more, there's so much to see and do here. Venture north to find the coast and all of its excitement, with Bude being home to golden, sandy beaches with opportunities to try out surfing, or enjoy a leisurely game of golf as you soak in your scenery before enjoying a celebratory dinner in one of its waterside restaurants. Perfectly positioned for exploring the coast and countryside of Devon, Halwill Junction is a true gem of a settlement.

The photo's do not do it justice. We feared that it was going to be one cabin of many, but it was completely isolated with the only neighbours being the ponies and sheep. The cabin is a luxury 'escape' that exudes quality in every respect. The craftsmanship, effort and time are represented in every detail in the property from the multi coloured paneling to the bespoke lighting, giving it that 'wow' factor. It has a completely 'chilled' vibe allowing those everyday stresses to ebb away. It is in a fantastic location allowing you to either hit the North Coast, Launceston or Okehampton in half an hour. The only negative is that we couldn't stay longer. Thank you for a superb stay, we will be back.

Everything you need is there. Hosts were very friendly. Located ideally for exploring both devon and Cornwall. The cabin was great and set in a lovely peaceful area. Definitely recommend a stay here
