Across the river is Instow with a delightful sandy beach, which can be reached in the car or via the short passenger ferry trip from Appledore quay. (Summertime only) The nearby beach at Westward Ho! is also a short drive from the apartment and is popular with surfers, swimmers and families. For those keen for an adventure, the Exmoor & Dartmoor National Park are close by and offer wonderful walks with plenty of history. The traffic free Tarka Trail offers a cycle/walking route which can take you to nearby Barnstaple or Torrington.
