A ferry from nearby Starcross takes passengers with or without bikes across the estuary to Exmouth where you can join the Exe Estuary Trail.

The nearby Powderham Castle is a lavish 14th century castle resting further north along the River Exe near to Kenton. Marvel at the amazing tapestries and antiques, as well as the extensive grounds. Further south is the town of Teignmouth, bustling with seaside fun and home to a classic pier built back in the mid-1800s, with Teignmouth Lighthouse providing a perfect photo opportunity. The Shaldon Wildlife Trust over the water has a small zoo, home to some rare species. The cottage is also within 30 minutes drive of Exeter, Torbay and the Dartmoor National Park. Excellent place to explore the area. Amazing views over the sea and railway line and walks along the coastal path. Kitchen has everything you could ever need. Beds comfy and nice bathroom. Note that it is a long walk with many steps to the parking which meant numerous trips carrying heavy bags/prams etc to load/ unload. Having said that our Sainsbury’s delivery man arrived with four crates and a big smile! No regrets though as had a fab week
