About this property

The Meeting House is a spectacular three-storey retreat in the heart of Ashburton, Devon, where timeless elegance meets modern indulgence. This former chapel has been transformed into a luxurious haven, perfect for families or groups seeking something extraordinary. Step inside and be captivated by soaring ceilings, antique furnishings, and vibrant artwork that set a tone of sophistication. The sociable kitchen/diner is ideal for culinary adventures, while two sumptuous sitting rooms, each with a crackling woodburning stove, invite you to sink into plush sofas and savour the glow of the fire. Five beautifully appointed bedrooms wait to catch your sleepy head: a super-king-size with Smart TV and opulent en-suite featuring a Jacuzzi bath, two charming doubles (one with en-suite), and a twin for flexible sleeping arrangements.

Outside, the courtyard beckons for alfresco dining under the stars. Beyond your door, Ashburton’s artisan shops and cafés await discovery, while Dartmoor National Park offers rugged tors, wild ponies, and endless walking trails. Explore Haytor Rocks for panoramic views, or wander Becky Falls Woodland Park for cascading waterfalls and wildlife encounters. A short drive brings you to Totnes, a riverside town brimming with history, boutique shops, and the enchanting Totnes Castle. For coastal delights, head to Torquay for sandy beaches and the bustling harbour, or Paignton for its famous zoo and family attractions. Further afield, the English Riviera promises scenic boat trips and fine dining with sea views.

The Meeting House is more than a holiday home; it’s an experience, blending heritage and luxury for an unforgettable Devon escape. Note: This property can be booked with ref. 1192806, 1192808, and 1007860, together sleeping 20 guests.

The ancient Stannary town of Ashburton lies on the southern slopes of Dartmoor and is an ideal spot from which to explore the rugged high moors to the North and a beautiful coastline to the South. The scenery in this area of South Devon is glorious in all weathers and offers visitors opportunities for walking, pony trekking, canoeing, fishing and lazing on the beach. Ashburton has some interesting artisan shops and with its interesting history and museum, has built a reputation for its high standard of antiques and fine collectables outlets. It also has lovely tea rooms, a wine bar and a fantastic food deli providing fresh fish and olives. In the surrounding area, Dartmoor has many picturesque villages and hamlets with old thatched cottages and ancient churches, surrounded by a patchwork of fields and woodland. Lustleigh, North Bovey, Chagford and Widecombe- in- the- Moor are fine examples. The attractive seaside town of Teignmouth is a half hour drive and the popular Blackpool Sands, although a little further down the coast, is one of South Devon's most beautiful natural treasures. An award-winning privately managed 'Blue Flag' family beach with turquoise blue sea giving it an almost Mediterranean feel. So whether it is moor or coast that you’re seeking for your getaway, Ashburton is a really central town from which to be based.
