About this property

Tucked away just off the historic ‘narrows’ in the heart of Totnes, lies this quaint, one-bedroom property, The Loft Cottage. Set over two floors with a sought-after garage storage space for bikes, paddle boards etc, whilst being within a stone’s throw of many shops and eateries, The Loft Cottage provides a lovely bolthole for couples looking to escape to South Devon. Approached via an alley leading to the property, step through the front door and into the entrance hallway, leading off to a bathroom with a choice of bath and shower over. Climb the stairs to reach the open-plan living space, featuring a curtain divide with a double bed at one end. Take over the kitchen to prepare your home-cooked meals when you’re not dining at a local restaurant! Spend your down time on the sofa, tuning into the Smart TV for your favourite shows, or throw open the patio doors to access the Juliette balcony, overlooking the street. Totnes makes an excellent holiday base; within a short walk lies Totnes Castle, a well-preserved Norman castle with commanding views of the town and River Dart, along with the Totnes Elizabethan House Museum where you can browse over ten thousand artefacts that tell the story of this charming, historic market town. Escape the hustle and bustle of the town with a wander along the River Dart or head to the River Dart Country Park and explore a range of outdoor activities, including zip-lining, canoeing, high ropes courses and hiking or if you’re after something a little less strenuous, why not enjoy a picnic in the sun? Head to Darlington for a superb range of independent shops, perfect for picking up a gift to take back home, whilst there is also the fabulous Dartington Hall, a beautiful medieval estate featuring gardens, art galleries and craft shops. If you crave a day on the coast, golden expanses can be found at Torquay, Broadsands and Babbacombe Beach, or the fabulous national park of Dartmoor, all accessible within a scenic drive. The Loft Cottage provides an excellent bolthole for two.

The market town of Totnes is at the head of the estuary of the River Dart, in the South Devon Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. Its historic Fore Street is lined with interesting shops, tea rooms, restaurants and a weekly Elizabethan market, offering local produce and unique finds. During the festive period, the streets of Totnes come alive with its annual Christmas market. From Totnes, set off on walking routes with stunning backdrops along the Dart Valley Trail, or explore the historic Totnes Castle. The historic naval town of Dartmouth and the shops and estate at Dartington are just a short drive away.

There was a very nice surprise in the fridge when I arrived: bread, eggs, milk etc. which was very welcome.

Not been cleaned properly on arrival, with bread crumbs under the toaster, dust under the clothes hanger and the floor was indeed of moping. The shower screen door is missing a seal preventing water leaking when having a shower The garage and passageway had been flooded leaving foul smelling water lying on the floor filling the apartment with a terrible odour. The light fitting is hanging out of the ceiling at the bottom of the stairs, the garage door doesn't work and we unable to get the heating to work as it dropped very cold one evening. We very pleased with the booking and admin, it's a pity the accommodation didn't meet the same standards.
