About this property

In an enviable elevated position above the ruins of the tiny fishing village of South Hall Sands, Prospect House is a former hotel, that has been sympathetically restored and converted into stunning apartments and cottages. Many of the properties boast dramatic sea views, whilst all having access to the beautifully landscaped gardens, outdoor heated swimming pool, tennis courts and private parking.

9 Prospect House is a beautifully designed second floor apartment, with stunning sea views, and enjoying a New England themed interior. The entrance door leads into a spacious hallway, which leads into all rooms. The open plan kitchen, dining and living area is built into the roof space, and is spacious, light and sunny. The fully-equipped kitchen compromises granite worktops, custom-made fitted units and breakfast bar with three stools. The living area has a long table, with six iconic ‘Cath Kidston’ chairs, a large modular sofa, footstool, coffee table, TV/DVD, and iPod docking unit. There is also a small table in front of the bay window, with views stretching to Start Point lighthouse and beyond - a glazed door leads out to a Juliet balcony.

The master bedroom sits at the front of the apartment, and enjoys a King-size bed, sea views and en suite bathroom (combined bath/shower). The second double also boasts a King-size bed, with views out to sea. A third single bedroom is a fantastic children's room with a Juliet balcony overlooking the rear gardens and swimming pool. Additionally, there is a sunny shower room. Free wireless broadband is provided, as is one allocated parking space.

Hallsands is a small village near Start Point, one of the most southerly points on Devon’s coastline. The sheltered South Hams Peninsula is in 'deepest Devon', a pastoral landscape of flowering hedgerows and ancient sunken lanes, carved into by the richly wooded Avon and Dart Valleys. This quiet fishing village, with its dog-friendly, unspoilt beach, is situated next to the historic ‘old village’ of South Hallsands, which was washed away by a storm. Just three miles away, providing a popular walking route along the South West Coast Path, is popular Beesands Beach which has its own gastro pub and shop. This Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty is decorated with white, pink and ochre thatched cottages, picturesque fishing ports such as Dartmouth, and is renowned for its stunning coastline, popular with yachting enthusiasts. Much of the clifftop land has been acquired by the National Trust, a haven for bird watchers and walkers. Nearby, uncover the beauty of Blue Flag awarded Blackpool Sands, a family friendly beach, and Torcross, a historic site where the Normandy landings were practiced. For nature lovers, explore the nature reserve at Slapton Ley, adjacent to the long stretch of beach at Slapton Sands. Park at East Portlemouth and catch the passenger ferry across to the beautiful sailing town of Salcombe with its renowned estuary, or visit the Start Point Lighthouse, less than a mile away. Hallsands is a wonderful base for uncovering the unspoilt beauty of Devon and the South Hams, all year round.

If you like tranquility, stupendous sea views and peace and quiet you will not find anywhere better than this lovely bright apartment. This is our 3rd year in a row of visiting no9. We plan to continue visiting it for the foreseeable future.

The only things that would help improve the stay, would be a smart TV so we could log into our Netflix/Prime accounts to watch a family movie (kids didn’t appreciate normal TV channels!). Also, seating around the pool to be able to enjoy it more. I saw families sat in the floor, we took our camping chairs down.

The view is stunning and we felt from the very first minute like at home. It has everything you need for a fabulous stay. Only the kitchen utensils were very greasy and dirty, but most women always clean everything before they use it anyway. Unfortunately, the cupboards were all full of dog hair, which is very unhygienic and needs a basic cleaning first. But on the surface it was clean. As we arrived very late and it was dark we didn't found the houses and were struggling with our navigation and googlemaps. The last stretch after a larger private car park, which is marked with a stop sign and there are also repeated signs saying that you cannot stop or turn around after this point, must be disregarded! There is then only a very narrow and densely overgrown little road and warning signs again and again, and when you get there you are exactly right. We were afraid that we wouldn't be able to reverse out of it because it is really curvy and narrow, but there is enough space to park and turn around just in front of the houses. And it is worth renting this very remote flat.
