This detached one bedroom property offers accommodation for two people in a double room.
This detached barn conversion - part of the owner’s historic home - is nestled in the heart of Colyton in the beautiful Axe Valley. With a reverse-level layout that takes full advantage of the surrounding countryside views, and exposed beams that add a touch of traditional flare to the first-floor living area, It’s the perfect hideaway for couples looking to explore East Devon.
Enter the property and find yourself in the ground-floor entrance hall, leading to a double bedroom that is full of character and delightful furnishings. The ground floor also contains a shower room that comes equipped with a washer/dryer. Upstairs, is an open-plan living area with a kitchen that has been fitted with granite worktops and quirky dining furniture. Relax in the comfortable lounge on the double convertible sofa or in one of the armchairs, surrounded by the warmth of a wood burner-effect electric fire, and enjoy the views or watch a show on the TV. The enclosed courtyard at the front of the cottage (and behind the owner’s house) provides a great spot for al fresco dining at the bistro table and chairs for two.
Within half a mile from the barn is the centre of the small market town. Here, you can wander the shops and classic inns, and board the open-top electric tram to soak up wonderful views as it travels through the Axe Valley. For a day out at the seaside, you won’t have to go far. Just 7 miles from the property is Lyme Regis, a town on the Jurassic Coast, a unesco World Heritage Site. Take some time to chill out on the beach or try a romantic seafood lunch at one of the restaurants. For something a bit different, visit River Cottage HQ (7 miles), where you can dine or take a cookery class.
A great cottage in a wonderful small town, and an excellent position for exploring Devon and Dorset coastlines. We stayed during the coldest times of winter for a long time and the cottage was lovely and warm and cosy!
Lovely converted barn. Spacious upstairs living area and well equipped kitchen. Bedroom nice, reasonable size. Bed very comfortable. Shower very spacious in a smaller bathroom. Very enjoyable stay.
We have had a very pleasant short stay at the Upside Down Cottage in Colyton. Colyton is a fascinating town with an enormous and amazing looking church which sadly we just couldn’t find the time to go inside but a local lady told us a bit of the history which sounded very interesting. The cottage was lovely with views to match and the owner had provided everything we needed including a beautiful vase of roses, wine and some gorgeous biscuits. We met the owner briefly when we arrived and she was very helpful and kind. It is an easy drive to the nearby sea side towns and the shops and pubs in Colyton are all within easy walking through lovely winding streets. I hope we will be able to go back there again. Thank you to the booking company who were spot on with information and reminders, and to the owner for letting out this sweet little cottage.
