About this property

Orchid Cottage is a wonderful property in a fantastic location. The three-bedroom holiday home sleeps up to six people and is within walking distance of two pubs and the harbour in Axmouth. It's on the doorstep of some of the most incredible coastal scenery in the UK, including the magnificent Jurassic Coast and places like Durdle Door. Exmoor and Dartmoor are both within reach for a day out, as are Exeter and the towns and beaches of the English Riviera. Orchid Cottage is available all year round and suits families and friends.

Orchid Cottage is in the village of Axmouth, within walking distance of The Ship Inn and the harbour. There is space for up to six people to sleep in three bedrooms, and the layout is well suited to families. It's a gorgeous setting within the East Devon Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty with direct access to beautiful walks and cycling routes from the door. It's a lovely place to stay in any season as there are lots of sights and attractions that appeal all year round.

Axmouth sits beside the River Axe, close to where it empties into the English Channel. It's mainly residential, with good access to shops and other amenities only a few minutes away in Seaton. Sitting beside a river and being close to the coast means the opportunities for sailing, paddleboarding, canoeing and fishing are plentiful. Birds, plants and wildlife flourish in this protected environment. Guests love to walk from the cottage and through the Undercliffs Nature Reserve via the South West Coast Path. It is not the easiest stretch of footpath to traverse but your efforts will be rewarded with spectacular views. Alternatively, head west along the coastal footpath to Branscombe and Sidmouth, passing through Beer along the way. The footpaths inland are no less appealing with waymarked trails going through the Axe Valley and Coly Valley. Dartmoor National Park, Exmoor National Park and the Blackdown Hills are all close enough to travel for walking, horseriding, climbing or mountain biking.

Axmouth is close to the Jurassic Coast and sites like Lulworth Cove and Durdle Door. You can go fossicking for fossils between Lyme Regis and Charmouth, booking a guided fossil hunt via the Charmouth Heritage Coast Centre or the Lyme Regis Museum to have the benefit of an expert to help you find these ancient treasures. Local attractions and places to consider for a day out include the English Riviera (Torquay, Paignton, Brixham and Salcombe), the cathedral city of Exeter, the Donkey Sanctuary, Paignton Zoo, Barrington Court, Buckfast Abbey, and the seaside resort town of Weymouth.

Staying at Orchid Cottage means you're close to everything without the risk of getting tangled up on the busy summer tourist trail. It's a wonderfully welcoming home-away-from-home for you, your family or your friends to base yourselves while enjoying everything the region has to offer.
