About this property

Tucked away between the popular market town of Axminster and the seaside resorts of Lyme Regis and Charmouth is this stunning detached cottage, Sundowner Cottage.

Enjoying a superb location on a quiet lane with easy access to Devon and Dorset’s Jurassic coastline. Sundowner Cottage is a wonderful friendly option for a group (Sorry, no stag or hen parties) and a family of eight.

The property benefits from off-road parking and more than enough room for the whole family. Step into your home, where to the right you will find an inviting sitting room, featuring plush sofas and a large TV, ideal for relaxing movie nights with loved ones.

Continue through to find a contemporary kitchen, where you can look forward to whipping up delicious meals, ready to enjoy over celebratory bottles of fizz at the extendable dining table for eight. Completing the ground floor is a utility for your convenience.

Upstairs, you will find a well-appointed bathroom, complete with bath and overhead shower, so you can choose how best to freshen up at the end of the day, as well as four tastefully decorated bedrooms, a super-king-size with far-reaching views and a king-size, both with en-suite shower room, and a double and a twin.

A good selection of restaurants are nearby in Axminster and Lyme Regis that will satisfy the tastes and requirements of all the family. The Hunters Lodge Inn is within walking distance from the Cottage; the owner will provide a list of recommended restaurants and pubs as a guide that are within a ten-mile radius of the Cottage. Axminster has a large supermarket and a weekly farm market.

Delve into the history of the surrounding area that include the Axminster Heritage Centre, Lyme Regis Museum & Dinosaur land Fossil Museum. The family can enjoy a fun filled day on the sandy beach of Lyme Regis, the Axe Valley Wildlife Park, search for fossils on Charmouth Beach, Lyme Regis Marine Aquarium, mackerel fishing trips and take to the waters on a Rib Ride and much more.

Nearby, you can enjoy scenic walks through the Axmouth to Lyme Regis Undercliffs National Nature Reserve or head to Charmouth, where you can visit the Charmouth Heritage Coast Centre, spending a day at the beach.

Further afield, you’ll find Seaton, home to the Seaton Tramway and Seaton Wetlands. Beer that includes the Beer quarry caves and Pecorama miniature train rides. Bridport for a shopping experience, restaurants and cafés and high-quality butchers. Burton Bradstock beach and lunch at the famous Hive Beach Café. All this and more awaits at Sundowner Cottage.

T.V. personality Hugh Fearnley-Whittingstall popularised the area's organic shop and canteen, drawing attention to the charming market town of Axminster. Axminster is the perfect spot to unwind because of its tranquil setting in the countryside. It is one of the most picturesque villages in Devon, and its carpets are often compared favourably to those of Turkey. Located on the River Axe, not far from the Jurassic Coasts of both West Dorset and East Devon, Axminster is home to a plethora of independently owned shops, a weekly market, and several truly fine old inns—including one that dates back a century and is haunted by its former innkeeper. With stunning scenery and the nearby Shute Barton and Loughwood Meeting House, Axminster is a must-see.

Parking good and good position for a number of beaches. BBQ filthy so could not use it and bin full when we arrived of unsorted refuse! House too hot . Fabulous kitchen but instructions complicated due to high end hob. Great bathrooms but more loo brushes?? No view from house as trees have grown but it could be amazing. No phone signal except outside. Main bathroom blind dodgy. Larger grater?

The beds are comfortable, the living room, dining room and outdoor seating area and comfortable rooms/areas to be in. The house was clean and modern with good off road parking. We would love to visit again.

The house is beautifully decorated to a high standard, with top notch appliances in the kitchen and clean and comfortable living areas and bedrooms. Bathrooms were well-stocked with handsoap and toilet rolls. Washing machine and tumble dryer were in good order and stocked with washing tablets to use. Kitchen also had handtowels, detergents, bin bags and kitchen towel. Although it was not warm enough to enjoy the outdoor space, the garden and patio area looked very nice too. The road up the property was not in the best shape, with numerous large potholes thanks to all the recent rain so had to be taken slowly. There was no instruction or welcome manual for the property so we were not sure about things like rubbish removal. As well, the well-equipped kitchen would have benefitted from some additional instructions as we could not work out how to use the hob to start and the lower oven seemed to always trip the switchboard. We enjoyed the proximity to Lyme Regis (9 min drive) and all the amenities there as well as the Jurassic coast to go fossil hunting. We will definitely love to return again.
