Only a short drive away lies the seaside resort of Lyme Regis, best known for its family friendly beaches, Cobb Harbour, town museum, and the local aquarium. Take a trip to nearby Forde Abbey where a leisurely stroll through its award-winning gardens is recommended, while animal lovers should go to the Abbotsbury Swannery, which is home to the world's only managed colony of nesting mute swans. Axminster, located on the River Axe and easily accessible from both the West Dorset and East Devon Jurassic Coasts, offers many attractions, including many of privately owned businesses, a weekly market, and good old inns, one of which dates back 100 years and has its own resident ghost! With stunning views and the National Trust estates of Shute Barton and Loughwood Meeting House nearby, Axminster is a must-see.
