Guests say

Cloam Cottage in Port Isaac offers a charming stay with quality bedding, towels, and a convenient parking space. Its central location is appreciated, though some guests noted issues with cleanliness and maintenance.

Guests frequently mentioned cleanliness issues, including the presence of dog hair, sand, and a general need for a deeper clean. The exterior's appearance also received negative comments, with dirty windows and doors.

The cottage's location is highly praised for its proximity to the harbour and the village's attractions. The designated parking space is also noted as a significant advantage.

While the beds were described as clean and comfortable, some guests found the living space cramped and the noise from a nearby restaurant's extractor fan intrusive. The steep stairs were also a concern for some.

Several guests reported broken or outdated facilities, including kitchen appliances and bathroom fixtures. Issues with Wi-Fi connectivity and a lack of cleaning materials were also mentioned.

There is no mention of gifts or extra thoughtful touches provided by the hosts in the reviews, so it is not possible to assess this category.

About this property

Cloam Cottage is a traditional, fisherman’s dwelling located in the centre of Port Isaac, on Cornwall’s north coast. This self-catering property sleeps up to four guests and is perfect for a family holiday or romantic break for two, well-positioned near the beach and range of local amenities. There are plenty of characterful features to admire when you arrive; slate flooring runs throughout the ground floor, exposed beams are on show in every room and the sitting room has a large fireplace and woodburning stove to cosy up in front of. The ground floor also contains a well-kitted out kitchen, a separate utility room which includes a washer/dryer and additional storage space, and a family bathroom with a walk-in shower. Upstairs you will find two stylishly decorated bedrooms, one double room and one twin, as well as an additional WC. Much of Port Isaac is unchanged from hundreds of years ago, and you can see this in the picturesque harbour, traditional buildings, and rugged coastline. Port Isaac is known for its winding streets and alleyways, with one of the narrowest known thoroughfares in Britain, aptly named Squeezy Belly Alley! When the sun is shining you can head to the small, sandy beach at Port Isaac or venture down the coast to the larger beaches at Daymer Bay or Rock, and practice building sandcastles, surfing or just relaxing with a good book. Boat trips out to sea, whether fishing or wildlife watching are a perfect way to admire the coastal scenery, while those who prefer dry land can ramble along the South West Coast Path for scenic adventures. For your next Cornish break, stay at Cloam Cottage.

Port Isaac; one of the true Cornish treasures. A beautiful fishing village nestling in a steep sided valley, the old village in the valley remains unchanged from its days of fishing, slate export and smuggling in the previous century. An abundance of small character properties complemented by larger cliff-top retreats, can be found with easy access to the numerous restaurants and shops of the village. The sandy harbour provides an abundance of rock pools as the tide retreats. Only ten minutes drive from the beaches of Polzeath, Daymer and Rock, it is perfect for romantic and family holidays alike. There is ample parking at the top of the village.

The outside doors and windows were filthy hadn’t been cleaned for a long time no other cottage had windows in that condition. The hoover didn’t work the broom had no handle dustpan didn’t sit on the floor to sweep properly while on my hands and knees. No other cottage on the street looked so tatty, a little love and small investment would make this a perfect place to stay.

The only complaint I have is that the windows were so dirty that we could see nothing out of them. I spent an hour cleaning those on the ground floor. They were filthy. One other point to note is that although we were asked to leave our rubbish outside, there were no bags in which to do this, so we had to leave the rubbish inside. Other properties appeared to have sturdy black bags in which to leave rubbish.

Dog hair was everywhere, sand all over the floor. Stains on the sofa and the shower room was disgusting and covered in black mould.
