Portreath, with its sheltered harbour, was a hive of activity and industry as a major tin-exporting port in the 1800s. The village's wild and rugged coastline now draws visitors from all over the world. The area is characterised by high cliffs, quiet coves, and sandy, surf-washed beaches, with evidence of the area's strong industrial background all around. Portreath has a tiny fishing harbour, shops, a few pubs, three cafés, and a Chinese restaurant, in addition to its safe, sheltered sandy beach.
