About this property

Located in the antiques capital of Cornwall, this really cosy old cottage is full of character and beautifully furnished in a style in keeping with this historic ancient stannary town of Lostwithiel. Surrounded by what has often been described as the loveliest inland scenery in Cornwall and located in a beautiful wooded valley the town is ideally placed for exploring the whole county within easy reach of the coast and moors. The moment you arrive and enter this cottage, you will sense the character and appreciate the quality of furnishings which exudes throughout. Through the kitchen then into the quaint dining room before entering the sitting room with its massive comfortable settee and a woodburner for cosy evenings on the cooler nights. There are two traditionally furnished bedrooms here which along with the bathroom are situated on the first floor. Outside at the rear of the cottage a flight of steps will take you along a path leading to a private elevated patio with splendid views over this lovely old town. Just a short stroll from the cottage will take you to the heart of this historic town with numerous antique shops as well as contemporary art and craft shops, many located down the hidden lanes the town is famous for. A choice of several excellent pubs and restaurants are all within a few minutes’ walk with the closest being the Restormel Lodge just a couple of doors away offering seasonal Cornish produce in its conservatory restaurant. For the sports enthusiasts the Golf and Country club offers a challenging 18 hole golf course as well as tennis and swimming. Fishermen will be able to obtain licences for salmon and trout fishing and horse riding can be enjoyed in a nearby village. With splendid walks right from the door and so much to see and explore in the locality this is an excellent cottage to be enjoyed all year round.

A delightfully peaceful country town, nestling in the Fowey river valley amid the woods and fields that characterise the area. Renowned as a centre for the antiques trade, there are several shops and dealers in the town, as well as a fine collection of country pubs, restaurants and a thriving farmer’s market. Lanhydrock House (NT) and gardens is just 3 miles away, while the fabulous Boconnoc House, Eden Project, shipwreck museum and tall ships harbour at Charlestown, and the picturesque fishing villages of Mevagissey, Fowey and Padstow, with the famous Rick Stein restaurants, are all within easy driving distance.

There was no mention in the other reviews, but the road noise is very noticeable. The weather wasn't suitable for sitting outside, but it would not be relaxing due to the road noise, if you are not used to it. Good location for North and South Cornwall.

We found this little gem of a cottage as it was convenient for places we wanted to visit - Eden, Heligan, Truro and Lanhydrock. However, it was so cosy and comfortable we'd have been quite happy staying in, just reading and playing games in front of the fire! There was nothing that we needed that wasn't provided. Parking in the suggested place wasn't a problem. We will look this cottage up if we ever return to the area.

Easy access to town centre and all the locals friendly. 5 mins walk to railway station so great for exploring Cornwall. We loved our stay even if it was out of season.
