Set at the foot of a hill within the traditional Cornish fishing village of Polruan, overlooking a busy boat yard, with superb river views. Located just across the water from the better known Fowey and connected to by the Polruan Ferry which crosses the harbour every fifteen minutes. Fowey is a bustling small port with many craft shops, galleries and restaurants and attractive moorings. From here, ferries run to the nearby fishing town of Mevagissey, Boddinick and Polruan. Head slightly further afield and visit Polperro and Looe with their rugged coastlines, small beaches and range of independent shops, galleries, cafes and restaurants.In the 18th century, two hundred and fifty years ago, it is recorded there was a tunnel from underneath the stairs to the boatyard below. This was used for smuggling! Part of the brick archway collapsed, and the entrances to the tunnel were filled in some years ago. Enter this rustic traditional Captains House and step back in time. The lounge with sofas, period fire surround and wood burning stove, the perfect place to relax after a day of exploring and enjoy a film on the TV/DVD. Polruan is a quaint little village situated on a very steep hill, so access to some parts of the village can be challenging.. Many of the amenities, ferries and cottages in Polruan are accessed via steps some of which can be steep. Please contact us if you have specific requirements.. There are many small winding streets that are not suitable for cars, therefore many properties in Polruan do not have private parking. However, there is a large pay and display carpark at the top of the village..
