Swallows Cottage is a spacious, tranquil retreat in the Cornish countryside, praised for its peaceful setting, friendly hosts, and easy access to scenic walks and local villages. Guests appreciate the well-equipped kitchen, comfortable living areas, and beautiful gardens, making it ideal for couples and dog owners seeking relaxation. While some mention minor maintenance issues and limited connectivity, the overall experience is positive, with many highlighting the cottage’s charm, cleanliness, and the warm welcome from the owners.
Most guests found the cottage clean and well-presented, with particular praise for fresh bed linen and towels. A few noted areas needing deeper cleaning or repainting, but these were exceptions rather than the rule.
The location is highly regarded for its tranquillity, countryside views, and proximity to footpaths, the coast, and local villages. Some guests noted the walk to the village can be challenging, but alternative routes are available.
Guests generally found the cottage comfortable, with a spacious layout and cosy atmosphere. Some mentioned the bed was too firm and the heating less effective in cooler weather, but most enjoyed a restful stay.
The cottage is well-equipped, especially the kitchen, and offers ample space and a large garden. Some guests noted the need for updates in the kitchen and bathroom, and occasional issues with hot water and heating.
The hosts are frequently described as friendly, welcoming, and helpful, sometimes offering lifts or advice. While some guests received extra assistance, such gestures are not guaranteed for all stays.
St Keverne 0.5 miles. This attractive barn conversion is one of a small group of cottages in the beautiful gardens of Chywoone Farmhouse, in a secluded rural position, half a mile from the pretty village of St Keverne on the Lizard Peninsula. An ideal cottage for two, this St Keverne cottage provides a tranquil retreat and is set all on the ground floor, which is beautifully tiled. The spacious kitchen-diner has a feature stone fireplace and woodburner, tall beamed ceilings and a dining area which is light and cheerful. There is an abundance of fabulous walks on the Lizard Peninsula, village pubs to walk to and many sub-tropical gardens to visit nearby, such as Trelissick and Glendurgan. The Helford River is stunning, the coastline dramatic, whilst Falmouth provides shopping, eateries and Pendennis Castle. This St Keverne cottage provides a fabulous retreat off the beaten track but is just half a mile from the attractive Cornish village of St Keverne with traditional pubs and shops surrounding the square. Note: This property can be booked with Refs. 3998 and 4682, together they sleep 8.
The lovely village of St Keverne lies just inland from the sea and is situated on the eastern side of The Lizard Peninsula. The village has pubs and shops which surround the village square, plus a church spire. The South West Coastal path has beautiful coves, sandy bays and spectacular cliffs that are wonderful to walk along and nearby are the Helford River and Helford village, which are worth visiting. Nearby is Falmouth, which has one the largest natural harbours, Pendennis Castle and the popular National Maritime Museum. There is plenty to see and do within this part of Cornwall.

The kitchen is very well equipped, but the ancient fridge needs replacing. The owner has changed the heating system from an oil boiler to electric heaters, which are really not effective enough for keeping a property of this type warm, and are controlled by the owner on WIFI, which meant we kept having to ask her to put the thermostat up and put the heat on at more relevant times, which she did do, but it was quite annoying to have to constantly have to ask, particularly as the phone signal is non existent, and she was often not in. It's probably fine during the hot summer months, when the doors to the garden are open, and more time is spent eating outside, but it feels a bit cool and damp on wet and windy days. The Three Tuns pub in St Keverne is excellent and also does take away pizza, and the village shop also well stocked. It would be useful if the owner could be contacted by Whatsapp as it would be more reliable than landline and mobile contact numbers.
