We have stayed in over 20 holiday cottages all over the UK and this cottage, gardens and location are certainly a bit different from the norm but for all the right reasons. We were 2 adults and 2 dogs and this 2 bedroom cottage was very spacious. It is an upside down design with the bedrooms downstairs and a very large open plan lounge/kitchen/dining area upstairs. This works really well as the cottage is located on a sloping site so the patio doors from the open plan lead out level to the rear garden and orchard area. The cottage was clearly originally one very large property but is now split into two properties, so is attached. The attached property was empty when we were there. The cottage is located directly at the end of a small tidal creek - very beautiful. There is only one other house there and it is very quiet. It is reached by some very narrow lanes. It is within 5 minutes drive to the Bodinnick ferry to get over to Fowey. There are no local amenities hence the score given for this but there is a shop in Lerryn about 15min drive, or in Fowey via ferry, or Lostwithiel. The main open plan area was a standout for us. Three large comfy sofas, large sky TV, large dining table and well equipped kitchen area. Dog owners should be aware that the rear garden is not fully fenced/secure but there is no traffic. There is also a 5ft deep unfenced pond at the front. These did not worry us or our dogs but could maybe worry some. One thing that did concern us was that the stairs had a gap on one side with approx 4ft drop which people with dogs or children need to be aware of - this could be easily dealt with by having a further glass infill to match the main side. We had to stand there to stop our dogs potentially sliding off the wooden steps on the corner as you go up or down the stairs. I hope this feedback is followed through. There was a basic property info pack but some info was out of date such as one of the local pubs having shut in August. No info on local shops or on rubbish arrangements and only a few leaflets for attractions in the area. These are not essential but having been to so many holiday properties you notice the little things like this. There was however some complimentary jam and tea provided.Dog bed and bowls were provided which were nice touches. We really enjoyed our stay in this unique property.
