Author Daphne du Maurier made Polruan, a little fishing community perched atop a sloping slope on the Fowey estuary, famous. It features a little beach, is still unspoiled, and still exudes the vibe of a bygone boat manufacturing village. One of only five Polruan chain towers known to exist in England, the Polruan Blockhouse is a diminutive building constructed next to a river or a harbour to house the mechanism for raising and lowering a defensive chain to block the passage of ships during dangerous times. It is the first chain tower to be built, along with the tower on the other side of the River Fowey. The community features bars, a local shop, a gift shop and a post office. You can get to Fowey, which has a variety of upscale stores and restaurants, by taking a five-minute ferry ride. The Fowey Regatta, which takes place in August, is a fun-filled week of activities and events that features rnli demonstrations, a funfair, breathtaking firework displays and a showcase of vintage ships.

We realised that, as a cottage it would be small, the bathroom is particularly small but the shower was excellent. Both bedrooms are really comfortable with excellent clean bed linen and nicely furnished. There is only seating for 2 people on bar stools in the kitchen, so, if you cook, meals have to be eaten on your lap, we actually ate out every day. We did experience difficulty with the key for the front door, also, more information is required as to how the hearing works, which was frustrating, especially for the electric fire, we found the details after a couple of days, but would have been better to be included in the folder. Nice welcoming pack of scones, thank you, also good that dishwasher tablets/basic cleaning cloths were provided. I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend this cottage for 2 people looking for a relaxing break.

We were booked as two couples but in the end was just the two of us . Even though there is two double bedrooms the bathroom is very small and the downstairs in small also so would of been a squeeze with 4 adults. But the cottage is lovely. I think we should also warn people about the location we are pretty fit but house sits on a very very steep hill and the car park is at the top of the steep hill. We didnt find it a problem but elderly or anyone with a disabilty would struggle. But a beautiful cottage in a lovely place.

Had most things apart from a microwave and full length mirror.
