The plastic flowers and cacti just about said it all really - cheap and nasty, for maximum profit. I took photos of the nail clippings on the bathroom floor, of the congealed revolting mass of black hair and gunge in the bathroom sink plug filter and the encrusted sticky patches on the headrests of the leather sofa and chair. If I hadn't been so exhausted from the journey, I would have sought alternative accommodation the first night. As it was, we spent as little time there as possible. It is unreasonable to expect us to complain to the owner/cleaner who lives opposite in the first 24 hours. We didn't feel comfortable to do that and then run the gauntlet every day for the rest of our stay. I don't go on holiday or pay good money to start cleaning up after other people. We were plagued with flies, as were the poor calves separated from their Mothers. I felt so sorry for them. It was enough to turn me off dairy and meat for life. It was uncomfortably hot - the hottest week this year and although not expecting air conditioning (although this will be an issue in the future), we would have appreciated a fan as the flies precluded opening of windows. The 'yard' at the back was unpleasant and functional with no planting, no sunshade, no washing line which would have been useful as the heated towel rail only comes on with the central heating, so towels were constantly damp and 'unaired'. The small plastic table was warped, so not a level surface on which to place a cup or glass safely. A decent quality table and relaxing chairs would have been nice at the end of the day to have a glass of wine and there was absolutely no view at all which would have compensated at least in part for a space whose obvious function was for the dog guests to do their business. We felt like we were a 'cash- cow' venture - everything done on the cheap and without any care or thought for us as guests. As 'dog owners', it felt like it was expected that we would be happy with a lesser 'spec' and be more likely to trash the place or have badly behaved pets and let them on the beds etc. The bed was on a slope, with a ridge in the middle of the mattress, the pillows were of the cheapest thin kind, which both of us found uncomfortable and the mattress was too soft & unsupportive. The feather duvet was far too much tog rating for the hottest week of the year and not very sanitary, being difficult or impossible to clean between users. The driveway pot- holes have been patched, but we were glad of our 4x4. The best thing was the powerful shower. There were some permanent residents, but it wasn't a friendly atmosphere. This is the second time I 've had cause for complaint. I am seriously, considering using another agent. It's a shame, because the first rental from Sykes was immaculate and owners friendly and welcoming, where attention to detail and personal effort to make us welcome made all the difference. I will not be returning to the Dairy. I do not recommend it.

We had a brilliant stay at the dairy, just what we wanted and the dogs had fields to run in and a secure back yard when not out walking, ideal place for a base to explore,

Unfortunately the property could've done with a much more thorough clean, it was dusty, the wooden floors dirty and instantly smelt of dogs. Now needless to say it's a dog friendly accommodation but we've stayed in many and not had the same problem. The outdoor space, whilst enclosed and had furniture, was in need of some TLC and could've been made far more inviting. The hoover is in need if replacing/servicing as its not the best, maybe a dust pan and brush also would help. Flys were also a problem, expected due to the remote location but very annoying if you had the door open. There were no bin bags or basic cleaning items (like we've had a many other places) meaning after arriving late we were stuck until the next day, maybe just a bag in the bins to start you off and a sponge/cloth for cleaning would help?? Overall, as a last minute booking the place suited our needs, but I'm glad I didn't pay the full price as advertised as I would've been very disappointed. Small, basic and in need of a good clean and freshen up!
