About this property

Overlooking the River Tamar in the quaint, Cornish village of Calstock lies the brilliant, two-bedroom holiday home of Secret Lookout. With an enclosed front patio, that acts as a sun-trap for you to sit and and what the comings and goings of Calstock and enjoy the river views. This home also boasts a collection of superb living spaces to enjoy the river view, and a fantastic location within the outstanding Tamar Valley Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, this charming property makes an idyllic base for families or a group of sharing friends looking for a relaxing, self-catered escape just a short drive East of the Dartmoor National Park. Park up either roadside or in the free train station car park before you step up into your stunning new lodgings. On the ground-floor, you will find solid oak flooring throughout an immaculate, well-appointed kitchen/diner featuring the granite worktops of a breakfast bar, large dining table, and a woodburning stove, along with a plush sitting room with inviting seating and a sleek, wall-mounted Smart TV. Downstairs on the lower-ground-floor, you will find a utility space housing laundry facilities, and an additional cloakroom. When sleep calls, head up to the first floor where you can refresh under the refreshing waters of a rainfall shower in the elegant bathroom, before you settle down for a well-earned rest in either a plush super-king or a sumptuous king-size on luxury deep memory foam mattresses, the latter of which enjoys access to a private, roofed terrace with corner sofa that looks out upon the flowing waters of the River Tamar. If you can tear yourself from your amazing new home, head out to explore what your local area has in store. A brief car trip to neighbouring Gunnislake will bring you to The Cooperative where you can stock up on homely essentials, whilst a delicious pub lunch can be enjoyed in Calstock at either The Tamar Inn or The Boot Inn. During your stay in the village, you can also embark on a hike along the Tamar Valley Discovery Trail, if you're up to the challenge! The attractions of Morwellham Quay, the National Trust landmark of Cotehele, and The Tamar Valley Donkey Park are also just a short car journey away. For a full day out, head east into the Dartmoor National Park, where the noteworthy landmarks of Wistman's Wood, Combestone Tor, Bellever Moor & Meadows, the Becky Falls Ancient Woodland Park, and the National Trust locale of Hembury and Holne Woods await eager visitors. All of this and more is yours to enjoy when you book Secret Lookout.

The small rural village of Gunnislake lies on the steeply wooded banks of the River Tamar. It has village pubs and a small selection of shops. Notably, the village sits at one end of the scenic Tamar Valley Railway - with regular services along the river bank to Plymouth. The area is perfect for exploring Dartmoor, the south and north coast beaches and the attractions of Cornwall’s far west. Close to hand, the Dartmoor town of Tavistock with its pannier market, pubs and restaurants is a must, as well as the popular fishing village of Calstock, renowned for its crafts and festivals, while the Donkey Sanctuary and Cotehele House and Gardens (NT) are just 10 minutes away. Enjoy a round of golf at St Mellion (8 miles), explore the restored Victorian mining village at Morwellham Quay (4 miles), search for otters and deer along the Tamar Valley footpath, visit the National Trust owned Lydford Gorge, or take a trip to the beach and picturesque harbour at Looe (25 miles) - there’s something for everyone. For something really different, why not ride the scenic Tamar Valley Railway into Plymouth and spend the day in the fabulous Marine Aquarium or strolling the historic Plymouth Hoe?
