Guests say

West View offers a peaceful, well-equipped base for exploring Dorset, with a spacious, secure garden ideal for dogs and a popular games room. Guests appreciate the quiet location and comfortable beds. However, several reviews mention that the property would benefit from a deep clean, refurbishment, and attention to maintenance, particularly regarding mould and overgrown gardens. While some guests found it cosy and enjoyed repeat visits, others were disappointed by cleanliness and upkeep issues. The property is best suited to those prioritising location and space over modern interiors.

Many guests noted issues such as mould, cobwebs, dirty appliances, and stained carpets and curtains. While some found the property clean on arrival, the majority highlighted a need for more thorough cleaning and maintenance.

The property is praised for its quiet, secluded setting and convenient access to local attractions, though some mention the proximity to a busy road and a burnt-out barn affecting the view.

Guests generally found the beds comfortable and the lounge cosy, with ample hot water and heating. However, issues with damp, mould, and dated interiors affected the overall comfort for some visitors.

The cottage is well-equipped for self-catering, with a games room and secure garden. Some facilities, such as the games room and kitchen appliances, were missing items or in need of repair, and maintenance of outdoor areas was frequently mentioned.

Some guests expected a welcome pack or found the review book full, and a few mentioned helpful owners. However, gifts or welcome packs are not guaranteed, and several guests noted a lack of these touches during their stay.

This could be a nice property but it needs a good clean. I had to clean the fridge & the breadbin before putting my food in them. The oven was dirty. There were silverfish in the bath & around the bathroom. There were cobwebs & spiders in the shower and in almost every corner. There were stains on the carpets & curtains. The sink in the games room was dirty. I had to clean all the green mould off of the washing line before I could use it (I would have used the clothes horse instead but that was broken). The overgrown front garden was actually a bonus as it blocked the view of the lorries. Wouldn't stay here again.

This place could be so nice with a good clean and refurbish! There's black mould on the ceillings and round the bathroom fittings, there's paint scratched off throughout and my bedroom had a small hole in the wall, there were silverfish in the bath (ewwww!), the curtains and beds are stained with something white and brown, there were no pillow protectors, I reported that the BBQ wasn't working and was advised it probably best to buy a disposable, there's burn marks in the carpet in the living room and stains on the hallway carpet, you can't access the front garden at all because it's so overgrown...BUT! The games room is fab, the location is absolutely brilliant, there is so much to see locally, and the enclosed back garden was great for the dogs! If it had a good do up and they got professional cleaners in, we would come back!!!(I have photos of all the things I complained about)

Many of the issues outlined below are contained in previous reviews up to 9 months ago and a recent one a week ago which raised several issues. There had been talk of needing to cut the bushes at the front of the house as made it dark and obscured any view. I raised concerns, with the caretaker 2 days before, who referred me to the owner Kelvin, about the recent review. The response from the owner was that most had been resolved but that he wasn't going to cut trees down to improve the view and can't help that his barn burnt down". The burnt down barn is the view from the back of the property so clearly either way the property is misleading calling itself West View. Given his curt response I didn't feel comfortable raising some of the other issues we, and other visitors, encountered. The issues are as follows:1. The pictures on the site, as noted by other reviewers are very misleading. Had we been able to see current photos - particularly with a massive burnt out metal barn, adjacent to the property, we would never have booked there.2. As noted by previous reviewers the curtains in at least one of the bedrooms were mouldy as was the space at the floor next to the bedside cabinet. 3. The bathroom ceiling is mouldy .4. The kitchen ceiling above the sink area and all the way along is mouldy. Neither 2,3,4, are conducive to those who suffer with asthma, such as myself.I4. In both showers the drain cap appears not to have been lifted or cleaned as both were dirty and fully of hair.5. The carpet in the living room has what looked like cigarette burns and stains. 6. Similarly the hall carpet had several stains along with one of the bedrooms.7. The oven was dirty and unusable - fortunately we took our Ninja Crispi.8. Not all items in the games room were either there or had items missing. 9.There are no umbrellas for shade in the garden for either the chair and table set or the picnic table (which has seen better days).10. The path to the back gate is overgrown and dangerous from hanging branches. Either side of the back gate was overgrown with weeds (which I cleared). |11. The front garden is inaccessible as so overgrown.12. There was no Welcome pack and the review book was completely full - noting some reviews raised the same issues in previous years.13. Given the majority of the week was spent in 38 degrees heat it would have been considerate for either Danielle the Caretaker or Kelvin the owner to make contact to check we were ok or needed fans. This is definitely not 4* accommodation which is what we were looking for and expecting when we booked it.
